About the Role We are seeking a commercially astute and strategic Commercial Lead to drive the development, evaluation and delivery of high-value commercial projects, partnerships and growth opportunities for Sydney Water. Working within the Finance, Commercial & Digital group, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and executing initiatives that generate sustainable value, enhance customer and stakeholder outcomes, and support the organisation's long-term strategic objectives. This role combines commercial strategy, financial analysis and stakeholder engagement, requiring you to lead complex business cases, develop sophisticated financial models, undertake due diligence activities and support commercial negotiations. You will collaborate with internal experts, legal teams and senior leaders to assess opportunities, manage risks and deliver commercially sound outcomes. As a trusted advisor, you will provide insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making while helping to foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and commercial excellence across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the evaluation, development and execution of commercial projects, partnerships and revenue-generating opportunities.
- Develop robust business cases, commercial assessments and financial models to support strategic decision-making.
- Conduct commercial due diligence, valuation and risk analysis to maximise value and minimise organisational risk.
- Support and participate in commercial negotiations,
ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes while protecting Sydney Water's interests.
- Prepare term sheets, commercial agreements and contract documentation in collaboration with Legal and key stakeholders.
- Contribute to Board, Executive and Committee reporting, providing clear commercial insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
About You In addition to a further qualification in Accounting, Finance (Corporate Finance), Applied Finance, Business, Economics, Science or a related discipline, a postgraduate qualification would be highly regarded Ideally you will also have:
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships and drive outcomes across all levels, including senior leaders.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical capability, with the ability to break down complex issues, evaluate options and develop practical solutions.
- Strategic thinker who synthesises insights to support decision-making and align outcomes with short and long-term organisational objectives.
- Commercial and financial expertise, including business case development, financial modelling, investment appraisal and value optimisation.
- Innovation mindset with the ability to identify and develop customer-focused products, services and commercial opportunities.
- Self-motivated communicator with strong written, presentation and facilitation skills, capable of driving outcomes and delivering clear insights to stakeholders.
