Our continued growth within the South Australian Defence market has created an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commercial Finance Manager to join our team.
The Opportunity
As the Commercial Finance Manager, you will be the finance lead for the South Australian business, responsible for delivering financial integrity, commercial insight, project cost control and reporting across a diverse portfolio of Defence projects.
Partnering closely with the SA Leadership Team, Program Director, Project Managers and Senior Contract Administrator, you will drive forecasting accuracy, optimise project performance, manage working capital, and provide commercial guidance that supports sound business decision-making and sustainable growth.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the finance lead for the South Australian business,
providing commercial insight and financial support to operational leaders and project teams.
- Partner with Project Managers to improve project performance through effective forecasting, cost control and margin management.
- Lead monthly project reviews, challenging cost-to-complete forecasts and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
- Manage WIP reporting, revenue recognition and project financial reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Drive budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes across the SA business.
- Support strong cash flow outcomes through effective management of claims, receivables and working capital.
- Provide trusted commercial advice to the SA Leadership Team and support key business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with group financial controls, policies and reporting requirements.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. A financial postgraduate qualification (e.g., CPA, CA) is desired.
- 5+ years' experience in commercial finance, project finance or project accounting.
- Experience within construction, defence, engineering or other project-based industries.
- Proficiency in using project forecasting and Power BI tools,
with a strong history of leveraging data analytics to make well-informed financial decisions.
- Excellent business partnering skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across various teams and work well with senior management.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, allowing you to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
- Possessing an analytical mindset, paying close attention to details, and capable of deriving meaningful insights from financial data.
- Results-driven and self-motivated, with a dedication to achieving business objectives and continuously improving performance.
