As a Construction Compliance Officer, you contribute to the safe and orderly management of building and construction activities across the municipality by supporting the administration and enforcement of Council’s Local Laws, relevant legislation, and building regulations. You conduct inspections, investigate complaints, and work proactively to ensure development activities comply with Council requirements, approved permits and construction management plans, minimising impacts on infrastructure, and supporting a liveable community. Through collaboration with internal teams, external stakeholders, and the broader community, you provide clear advice, propose practical solutions, and coordinate assessments across Council to resolve complex matters efficiently. As an Authorised Officer, you play a key role in facilitating compliance through inspections, enforcement actions, and breach notices where required. You apply sound judgment when assessing technical and multidisciplinary issues, balancing regulatory responsibilities with community expectations to achieve outcomes that protect both Council assets and community amenity.

Key Responsibilities

- Effectively manage a diverse and concurrent workload, prioritising tasks to minimise disruption to amenity and Council infrastructure and maintain community standards.
- Provide accurate, timely and informed advice to the Coordinator, Manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Undertake other duties as directed by management from time to time, consistent with the classification and capabilities of the role.




- Deliver effective administration and enforcement of Council’s Local Law, relevant legislation, and policies relating to community amenity.
- Administer building and construction activities throughout the municipality, including issuing notices to comply and infringements, and conducting site inspections.
- Respond to callouts and community concerns relating to compliance and public safety.
- Investigate complaints and breaches, gather evidence, and apply appropriate enforcement actions, including escalation where required.
- Identify, recommend and implement practical, compliant solutions to resolve issues.
- Deliver courteous, professional and high-quality service to customers and stakeholders at all levels.

Join us in this full-time permanent role, offering a competitive salary range of $85,404 – $97,836, plus 12% superannuation and a monthly accrued day off.

Desired Skills And Experience

What you’ll need to succeed:

- Experience in statutory administrative work, with knowledge of compliance procedures and building practices in Local Government.
- Deep understanding of relevant technologies, procedures, and processes specific to the operating unit for effective supervision and management.
- Strong grasp of the underlying principles of regulations, enabling accurate interpretation and application distinct from routine practices.
- Competently provide advice and regulate customer interactions within established guidelines, with an understanding of the implications of decisions.




- Skilled in addressing issues and mediating conflicts appropriate to the role, promoting positive outcomes and mutual understanding.
- Well-developed IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and GIS mapping technologies.
