Compliance Specialist Energy

The Opportunity An exciting opportunity is available for a Compliance Specialist to join an established Australian energy retailer. Reporting to the Compliance Manager, you will play an important role in supporting the organisation's compliance framework and regulatory obligations. You will coordinate internal audits, compliance monitoring, reporting and remediation activities while helping the business respond to regulatory changes and market developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the end-to-end internal compliance audit program, including planning, execution, reporting and follow-up.
- Prepare audit reports, document findings and control weaknesses, and track corrective actions through to completion.
- Develop and maintain the Annual Internal Audit Plan, audit schedules, checklists and supporting documentation.
- Conduct compliance reviews against regulatory obligations, internal policies and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate compliance monitoring and regulatory audit activities across the business.
- Work with stakeholders to implement corrective actions and monitor remediation.
- Coordinate mandatory compliance training, including training plans, registers, materials and completion reporting.
- Prepare regulatory reports,
submissions and responses to information requests from regulators.
- Maintain compliance and risk registers, ensuring matters are appropriately recorded, escalated and managed.
- Support the development and review of compliance policies, procedures and controls controls.
- Provide practical compliance guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess their potential impact on the business.
- Support initiatives that strengthen compliance awareness and culture.
About You You are a practical and detail-oriented compliance professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate regulatory requirements into workable business outcomes.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications, with legal qualifications highly regarded.
- One to three years' experience in compliance, risk, legal or regulatory work within a regulated industry.
- Working knowledge of Australian energy regulatory requirements and licence obligations.
- Experience supporting compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting, audits, incident management or remediation.
- Experience maintaining compliance registers, risk registers or compliance-tracking tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and engage with regulators and auditors.
- The ability to adapt to regulatory change and manage competing priorities.
Previous experience within the energy sector or in planning and conducting internal compliance audits will be highly regarded.
