Primary objective The Deputy Superintendent will assist the General Manager in managing multi classification Correctional Centres ensuring that security and good order is maintained in line with strategic directions, resource and policy management, and statutory requirements whilst ensuring the safe custody and welfare of prisoners.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist the General Manager in providing leadership and management of multi classification Correctional Centres to maximise

performance and meet all identified objectives incorporating sentence management, programs and services.
- Manage strategies that maintain compliance of statutory,



regulatory and operational practices within the correctional centre.
- Develop and implement strategic options, recommendations and effective initiatives to support the achievement of the

NT Correctional Services ‘Forward Together’ program including towards the goals and objectives across the key priority areas.
- Lead the change process necessary to engender the Department of Correction’s (DoC) Operational Philosophy and a culture of openness, learning, high performance and accountability within a custodial environment.
- Effectively manage and support staff in accordance with the NT Correctional Services policies and procedures along with the effective management of local and corporate industrial relations and Health and Safety processes and issues.
- Manage operational budgets, monitoring recurrent expenditure and performance and exercise delegated authority to ensure that the Correctional Centre achieves its outcomes and operates within the boundaries of organisational processes, legal and public policy constraints.

required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Significant experience in managing a diverse range of persons within a custodial environment
2.



Extensive and proven experience in the management of change processes and the development, implementation and monitoring of

policies and procedures relevant to a custodial environment.
- Proven experience in the effective leadership and management of people and financial resources, and a demonstrated commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity, Anti-Discrimination and Work Health and Safety.
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of the principles that apply to sentence management, programs and services for persons within custody.
- Extensive working knowledge of the criminal justice system, management processes and a thorough understanding of contemporary issues in relation to effective management within a custodial setting.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to build and sustain productive working relationships in the NT context.
- Advanced Diploma of Correctional Administration or other relevant qualification that is assessed as being equivalent, or alternatively a qualification assessed as being acceptable to permit the applicant to be appointed for a fixed term subject to obtaining the

Advanced Diploma or other relevant qualification.
