About Birrin Independence Hub

Birrin Independence Hub is a disability-led, participant-directed support service based in Melbourne.

We provide personalised support focused on independence, dignity, choice and genuine participant control.

We are currently expanding our team and are looking for reliable, capable and respectful Disability Support Workers to join our casual workforce.

This is a participant-directed environment. You will be working directly with the participant and becoming part of a consistent support team rather than being sent between multiple unrelated clients.

The role

Depending on your experience and the shifts you undertake, duties may include:

- Personal care and assistance with activities of daily living
- Showering, dressing and toileting support
- Transfers and positioning
- Hoist and mobility equipment use
- Assistance with meals and domestic activities
- Medication-related support where appropriately trained and authorised
- Community access and appointments
- Shopping and errands
- Assistance to participate in activities and maintain independence
- Household tasks associated with the participant’s daily living
- Supporting routines and established care procedures
- Working as part of a 1:1 or 2:1 support arrangement
- Active overnight or sleepover support where required
- Following participant-specific care plans, risk assessments and workplace procedures

What we are looking for We are looking for people who are:
- Reliable and punctual
- Calm, respectful and patient
- Comfortable providing hands-on personal care
- Comfortable working around complex physical support needs
- Able to follow instructions and established procedures




- Confident working independently when required
- Physically capable of undertaking the requirements of the role
- Professional and respectful of participant choice and privacy
- Comfortable working as part of a consistent support team
- Willing to learn the participant’s individual routines, preferences and support requirements

Experience & qualifications Experience in disability, aged care, nursing, community care or another relevant support environment is highly regarded.

Depending on the position, we may require or prefer:

- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services or equivalent
- EN or RN qualification for appropriate higher-support duties
- Previous experience with complex physical disability
- Manual handling and hoist experience
- Experience with personal care and transfers
- Relevant NDIS/disability-sector experience
- Current First Aid and CPR
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children Check where applicable
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module
- Current driver’s licence where required for the particular position

Relevant experience may be considered alongside formal qualifications depending on the position.

Employment conditions

Employment type: CasualAward: SCHADS Award, where applicableLocation: Kensington / Melbourne VICMultiple shifts and shift types available

Pay rates are based on the applicable classification, employment conditions and SCHADS Award requirements.





Specific rates will be confirmed as part of the employment offer and individual employment documentation.
