The opportunity

Secure Energy is looking for a practical, motivated Engineer to help operate, maintain and continuously improve renewable and remote energy systems across Western Australia.

Our projects include solar-battery microgrids, hybrid energy systems and remote power infrastructure supporting customers in environments ranging from national parks to defence and industrial facilities.

This isn't a purely desk-based engineering role. You'll combine engineering analysis and remote monitoring with practical troubleshooting and occasional site work.

We're looking for someone who genuinely cares about the systems they work on and the outcomes they deliver for customers. Someone who wants to understand why a system isn't performing as it should, takes ownership of finding the answer, and gets satisfaction from making it better.

What you'll do

- Monitor and support solar, battery storage, hybrid energy and microgrid systems.
- Diagnose faults and performance issues across electrical, control, communications and monitoring systems.
- Commissioning, electrical testing, troubleshooting and system optimisation.
- Use operational data to identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and system performance.
- Provide technical support to field technicians, customers and contractors.
- Support automation, SCADA, remote monitoring, communications and industrial network systems.
- Interpret electrical drawings, control schematics and system documentation.
- Prepare clear technical reports, service documentation and operating procedures.
- Work with customers to understand their operational needs and deliver strong outcomes.

The role includes occasional travel to operational sites across WA and potentially other locations, typically around once every two months, depending on operational requirements.

About you

Technical capability matters to us, but so do motivation, curiosity and ownership.

You enjoy solving technical problems and seeing the results of your work. You take pride in delivering a good outcome and aren't satisfied with simply getting a system working, you want to understand how it can operate safely, reliably and efficiently.

You don't need to be an expert in every aspect of renewable energy. If you have strong foundations in electrical engineering, automation, controls or industrial technology, and you're genuinely motivated to build your expertise in renewable energy, our senior engineers will support your development.

What you'll bring

Essential:

- Four-year tertiary qualification in Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
- At least one year of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with automation, control systems, instrumentation or industrial electrical systems.
- Practical exposure to electrical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting or fault-finding.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and system diagrams.
- Solid technical problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and technical documentation skills.
- Understanding of QA, HSE and protected work practices.
- Genuine interest in renewable energy and delivering excellent customer outcomes.
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel and work at remote sites.

- Currently residing in Western Australia with Australian work rights.

Desirable experience

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:

- Solar PV, BESS, inverters, microgrids or hybrid power systems.
- PLC, SCADA, HMI or industrial automation.
- Remote monitoring and operational dashboards.
- Industrial communications and networking.
- IT/OT, IoT or cybersecurity.
- Battery management systems.
- Software, scripting or programming.
- Renewable energy standards and grid integration.

You don't need to tick every box. If you have a strong technical foundation, enjoy solving operational problems and want to build your career in renewable energy, we'd like to hear from you.

Why Secure Energy?

You'll join a small, experienced and collaborative team working on energy systems where performance matters.

You'll have exposure to different technologies and operating environments, opportunities to learn from experienced engineers, and the ability to take real ownership of the systems you support.

Most importantly, you'll be able to see the results of your work, whether that's solving a difficult fault, improving system performance, preventing a future problem or giving a customer confidence that their energy infrastructure is in good hands.

How to apply

Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter (maximum one page) addressing these two questions:

1. What interests you about this role and building your career in renewable energy?
2. Tell us about a technical problem you have personally helped diagnose or solve. What was your role, what did you do, and what was the outcome?

We're interested in your own experience and motivation, so specific examples are more valuable to us than a formal cover letter.
