Reapit – Who are we?
Reapit is the original, end-to-end business technology provider for estate agencies of all sizes. We’ve been helping sales and lettings agents to build relationships and grow their businesses for more than 25 years. Our technology connects property professionals in Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand with buyers, sellers, tenants and landlords to power the relationships that change lives.
In Australia, Reapit stands as the preferred technology choice among the nation's leading estate agents and agencies. Tailored to the unique demands of the Australian property market, Reapit provides successful leaders with unparalleled tools across sales, property management, client relations, and data analytics, reinforcing their position at the pinnacle of real estate excellence.
What you’ll be doing The Engineering Director leads, line-manages and mentors the engineering teams within our regional business vertical, across multiple delivery squads. This is a people-first leadership role for an experienced technology manager who genuinely connects with engineers, builds strong and trusting relationships, and takes real pride in developing the people around them.
We run a deliberately flat structure with a broad span of direct reports. That design is intentional: it keeps our technical leaders close to their teams and close to the work, so this role suits someone who leads through relationships and technical credibility rather than layers of management. You will be hands-on with your people, if not always hands-on in the code.
Key Responsibilities:
People Leadership, Development and Mentorship:
- Line Management: Provide direct line management for a broad group of engineers, spanning all levels, from Engineer through to Principal, in a flat structure that keeps leaders close to their teams and to the work.
- Mentorship and Growth: Build strong, trusting relationships with each report, understanding their strengths, motivations and goals, and actively coaching and mentoring them to grow. Foster a wider culture of mentorship by creating opportunities for others and seeking them out for yourself.
- Performance and Check-ins: Hold regular, meaningful one-to-ones, staying responsive to concerns while communicating strategy and priorities at the right level. Manage performance proactively against a skills-based matrix, addressing under-performance early and constructively through both informal and formal channels.
Engineering Culture, Practice and Modernisation:
- Continuous Deployment: Champion our move towards a true continuous deployment model, working with the Regional Heads of DevOps and QA to advance CI/CD, automation and deployment efficiency, aligned around GitHub Actions.
- Technology Strategy: Promote and advocate the Reapit Global Technology Strategy, built around a centralised Platform as a Service and shared tools such as Reapit Connect, Elements, the Design System, CLI tools and Infrastructure as a Service, ensuring it is well understood across the teams.
- Modernisation and Technical Debt: Advocate for modernising and sunsetting legacy codebases in favour of scalable, cloud-based architectures, and establish sensible practices for managing and prioritising technical debt alongside delivery.
Delivery, Planning and Resourcing:
- Roadmap Alignment: Partner with the regional Product function and Senior Product Managers to align strategic roadmaps with business goals, balancing product development,
engineering modernisation, customer needs and available resources.
- Squad and Resource Planning: Balance product and business priorities against available skills, re-allocating and re-structuring squads to meet immediate goals while taking a 6-24 month view of resourcing, anticipating skills shortfalls and excess capacity and feeding into workforce and budget planning.
- Metrics and Reporting: Report engineering efficiency, code quality, debt reduction and test coverage at senior leadership level and through the Quarterly Tech Reviews, including DORA metrics.
Stakeholder Management:
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Drive alignment and collaboration with key stakeholders including the CISO, CIO, CPO, VPE, Regional GM, Heads of DevOps, Architecture and TechOps, key account customers, Product Marketing, Sales and HR.
- Regional Leadership: Represent R&D; as the responsible person for software development and delivery on the Regional Leadership Team, and actively participate in the Regional Product Council.
- Managing Change and Uncertainty: Handle risk, change and uncertainty across the organisation, communicating the reasoning behind decisions to stakeholders at all levels and addressing concerns openly and upfront.
Security, Compliance and Budget:
- Security by Design: Collaborate with the CISO and security team to embed industry-leading security measures within the development lifecycle, ensuring appropriate static analysis and code scanning through Snyk, AppCheck and other automated tools, and advocating for capacity to remediate CVEs in line with security SLAs.
- Incident Response: Lead incident response across the engineering organisation as the key accountable stakeholder, coordinating both the operational response and the downstream impact to the wider business.
Who we're looking for
At Reapit, we prioritise hiring individuals who share our values and possess the right attitudes and behaviours for success. Whilst some of the listed requirements may be important, don’t worry if you don’t meet all of them, we’d still like to hear from you.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Significant experience leading and line-managing software engineering teams, with a track record of developing engineers and building high-performing, high-trust teams - Essential
- A strong engineering background earned through hands-on delivery, even if you are not hands-on in the code day to day, giving you the credibility to lead technical people and guide design decisions - Essential
- Experience leading teams through change in ways of working, such as moving towards continuous delivery or away from rigid agile ceremony - Preferred
- Experience in a scaling or multi-squad environment, including resource and workforce planning - Preferred
- A Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience - Preferred
Leadership and People Skills:
- Genuine People Focus: You lead through relationships and truly connect with engineers, investing in their growth, wellbeing and careers.
- Difficult Conversations:
You address under-performance and conflict early, honestly and constructively, and can hold pay, performance and career conversations with care.
- Trust and Autonomy: You give teams autonomy and hold them to explicit outcomes, stepping in to support rather than to control.
Technical and Delivery Knowledge:
- Modern Engineering Practice: A solid understanding of continuous integration and continuous deployment, trunk-based or flow-based development, automated testing and the testing pyramid, and observability.
- Cloud and Architecture: Familiarity with modern, scalable, cloud-based architectures, microservices and API design, ideally on AWS, and an appreciation of well-architected, secure code principles.
- Security and Quality: An understanding of secure development practices, code scanning and how quality and security are embedded into the lifecycle rather than bolted on.
- Toolchains: Experience aligning teams around common toolchains such as Jira and GitHub Enterprise is welcome.
