FIELD INSPECTOR
Prefer a country road to an office chair? Your next office could be a road you’ve never travelled before.
Like driving? Enjoy being outdoors? Happy to pack a bag, hit the road and work somewhere different?
SHEPHERD is looking for Casual Field Inspectors to join our Civil & Disaster Recovery team, travelling to regional and remote locations across Queensland and interstate to inspect roads, drainage and civil infrastructure.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being on the move rather than behind a desk. One day you might be covering kilometres in a vehicle, the next you could be out on an e-bike completing inspections in the field.
What’s in it for you?
- $35/hr including casual loading + super + applicable allowances
- Vehicle supplied
- Travel and accommodation arranged
- Typical 10 days on / 4 days off roster
- Work across regional and remote locations and interstate travel
- A variety of work with the chance to work on the road, on foot and by e-bike
- Learn and use RACAS, mobile GIS and digital inspection technology
- Build practical experience across civil infrastructure and disaster recovery projects.
What you’ll be doing You’ll be our eyes and ears in the field—travelling to project locations and capturing accurate information that helps our teams and clients make better decisions.
Your days will include
- Inspecting roads, drainage and civil infrastructure assets
- Travelling throughout regional and remote areas, including interstate assignments
- Using vehicles and e-bikes to access and move through inspection areas
- Capturing photographs, asset condition information and field evidence
- Recording inspection data using RACAS and mobile applications
- Making sure your field records are accurate and complete
- Working safely around roads, uneven terrain and changing field conditions
- Working with experienced inspectors and project teams.
You’ll fit right in if… You enjoy driving and travelling, are comfortable spending time away from home and have the physical fitness for active outdoor work and using an e-bike.
You're also tech savvy. You'll also need to be comfortable using digital devices, able to work independently and have a valuable eye for detail.
Essential: Class C Driver Licence, White Card, Working with Children Check and a recent Criminal History Check, along with the required road-safety/WHS knowledge.
Civil infrastructure inspection experience, RACAS/Fulcrum/ArcGIS experience, First Aid, 4WD training or knowledge of road and drainage assets will give you an advantage.
The reality of the role
This isn't an office job disguised as a field job. Expect time away from home, interstate travel, long driving days, early starts, outdoor conditions, typically working 10 days on / 4 days off.
For some people, that's a deal-breaker. For the right person, that's the appeal.
Driven Different
At SHEPHERD, we Speak with Purpose, Grow Strength Together, Improve What Matters, act with Integrity with Care and Build Better Communities.
We don't hide behind “that's how it's always been done.” We use good systems, practical experience and reliable field evidence to help deliver infrastructure communities can rely on.
Prefer the open road to the office? Your next project could take you somewhere you've never been before.
