Salary/Level: Level 3 or 4, $89,464 - $96,043 or $99,134 - $104,044 p.a. plus Superannuation

Tenure: Permanent, Full time

Location: Narrogin, Merredin or Katanning, Western Australia

Under the direction (Level 3) or general direction (Level 4) of the Fire Coordinator, the Fire Operations Officer:

- Assists with (Level 3) or responsible for (Level 4) operational delivery and planning, organising, training and implementing fire management, (including prescribed burning and bushfire preparedness) within the Wheatbelt Region.
- Liaises with regional and Fire Management Services personnel to assist in preparing and planning works and training programs within agreed timeframes.
- Participates in monitoring the effectiveness and standards of training delivery and assessment in the region.

Selection Criteria

1. Some (Level 3) or demonstrated (Level 4) operational experience in the management of fire related activities, including fire suppression procedures, liaison with other fire - fighting and emergency organisations,



planning and implementing prescribed burning programs.
2. Some experience (Level 3) or experience (Level 4) and skills in leading and managing teams, including preparing and implementing works programs, scheduling work, setting goals and controlling and reviewing progress, including experience in managing volunteers and contractors.
3. Some experience (Level 3) or experience (Level 4) in using fire management as a land management tool to achieve biodiversity conservation, and park and forest management outcomes.
4. Good (Level 3) or well-developed (Level 4) interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated abilities in liaising with external organisations, including local authorities, private companies, other government agencies, stakeholders (including indigenous) and community interest groups, plus an ability to deal appropriately with the media.
