About the role

Take ownership of an established freight operation servicing some of the most remote locations in the Northern Territory. This is a senior operational role for someone who knows freight, understands transport, can lead a team, manage compliance and keep an operation moving safely, efficiently and profitably. You will step into an established business with existing customers, staff, systems, fleet and freight schedules, with a structured handover from the current experienced manager.

This is a hands-on role

This is not a position for someone who wants to manage purely from behind a desk.

You need to know what freight is in the depot, where it is going, what equipment is required, who is moving it and whether the job is being done safely and profitably.

Key responsibilities

- Running the day-to-day operations of the East Arm freight depot
- Coordinating receivals, storage, loading, consolidation and dispatch
- Planning scheduled and project freight movements across the NT
- Coordinating freight into remote and isolated locations
- Managing drivers, yard staff and operational personnel
- Managing fleet, trailers, forklifts and freight-handling equipment
- Overseeing rostering, daily priorities and operational workloads
- Managing load planning, restraint and transport documentation
- Maintaining Chain of Responsibility and heavy vehicle compliance
- Managing freight bookings,



customer requirements and subcontractors
- Preparing quotations and pricing within approved parameters
- Monitoring revenue, operating costs, fleet utilisation and productivity
- Managing incidents, damaged freight and operational disruptions
- Building robust customer relationships and identifying new opportunities
- Providing operational and commercial reporting to senior management

About you

- Strong experience in freight, transport, logistics or depot management
- Practical knowledge of road freight operations
- Experience managing drivers and operational teams
- Experience coordinating remote or regional freight
- Strong knowledge of Chain of Responsibility and heavy vehicle compliance
- Practical load planning and load restraint knowledge
- Commercial understanding of freight pricing and operating costs
- Strong customer service and relationship-management skills
- Strong WHS and safety leadership
- Current Australian driver's licence
- Good organisational, administration and reporting skills
- An HR, HC or MC licence and forklift licence will be highly regarded.
- Experience with road trains, Northern Australian transport, project freight or remote community logistics will also be highly regarded.
