We are looking for an experienced retail operator to take overall leadership of Brindle Group’s retail businesses on Rottnest Island, including our General Stores, liquor operations and Rottnest Bakery.

This is a hands-on General Manager role for someone with exceptional supermarket operations experience, strong commercial instincts and the leadership capability to bring multiple busy, seasonal businesses together. You’ll have overall accountability for people, performance and operational standards, while remaining close enough to the stores to understand what is happening on the ground and step in when required.

The role can be based on Rottnest Island or through a daily commute from the mainland, providing flexibility for the right person.

About the Role

Our Rottnest businesses operate in a unique environment, with significant seasonal peaks, complex logistics and high customer volumes.

As General Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the commercial and operational performance of the Island businesses. You’ll lead the Store Managers and senior team, set clear expectations and ensure our businesses consistently deliver strong financial results, excellent retail standards and exceptional customer service.

This is not a desk-based role. We are looking for someone who enjoys being in the stores, working alongside their teams and solving problems quickly.

Key responsibilities

- Provide overall leadership across the Rottnest Island retail businesses, including 2 x Premium General Stores,2 x integrated liquor stores and bakery operations.
- Part of the overarching Brindle Group Leadership Team.
- Take ownership of sales, gross profit, wages, labour productivity, waste and overall profitability.
- Lead, coach and support team members to deliver strong operational performance.
- Set clear expectations around store standards, customer service, availability, merchandising and execution.




- Maintain a strong presence across the businesses and provide hands-on operational support when required.
- Manage performance through explicit KPIs, regular review and practical action plans.
- Ensure rostering and labour are effectively managed across significant seasonal changes in trade.
- Drive strong stock management, ranging, availability and waste control.
- Work closely with the wider Brindle Group support team across buying, fresh, finance, people, marketing and operations.
- Oversee recruitment, workforce planning and team development, particularly ahead of peak trading periods.
- Identify commercial opportunities to grow sales, improve margin and strengthen the customer offer.
- Ensure effective planning around Island logistics, stock movements and operational requirements.
- Maintain high standards across food safety, compliance, workplace health and safety and company procedures.
- Build a strong, positive culture across the Island businesses where teams work together rather than operating independently.

What we’re looking for First and foremost, you will be an experienced supermarket operator with a strong understanding of what it takes to run high-performing retail stores.

You will ideally bring

- Significant senior management experience within food retail.
- Exceptional retail operational capability and a strong understanding of store execution.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen, including experience managing sales, GP, wages, budgets, productivity and profitability.
- Strong people leadership skills with experience leading multiple managers and large teams.
- A hands-on leadership style and willingness to be visible in the stores.




- The ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving and highly seasonal environment.
- Strong judgement and confidence making decisions quickly.
- Experience with workforce planning, rostering and labour management.
- A strong understanding of stock control, merchandising, availability and waste.
- High standards when it comes to customer service and store presentation.
- A positive, energetic and practical approach.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to bring different teams together behind common goals.
