What you'll do

As the Genetic Counsellor, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a high-quality genetic pathology service by collaborating with multidisciplinary scientific and clinical teams across Pathology Queensland's Genetic Testing Stewardship Service. You will undertake pre-analytical reviews of genetic testing requests to ensure they meet clinical, scientific and quality standards, provide expert guidance on best-practice genetic test ordering, and liaise with clinicians to clarify requests and support adherence to genetic pathology guidelines. Working closely with key stakeholders, you will build and maintain strong professional relationships, contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, support the implementation of evolving clinical and laboratory frameworks, and deliver education and advice to clinicians to promote appropriate and effective genetic testing practices.

You will also uphold service quality standards and workplace health and safety requirements to ensure safe, efficient and patient-focused service delivery.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

- A tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Genetic Counselling (i.e. Graduate Diploma/Masters Genetic Counselling)
- Demonstrated knowledge of up to date standards for genetic testing of patients including laboratory standards (e.g NPAAC requirements)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to maintain internal and external relationships
- Experience working well within a team structure
- Prior experience working as a genetic counsellor in a clinical or laboratory setting would be an advantage.
