The role

We are seeking a passionate, innovative, and experienced leader to join St Michael’s as Head of Drama and Theatre, leading the strategic development and growth of Drama and Theatre as a key member of the Performing Arts Leadership Team. Commencing in Term 1, 2027 for a three year tenue, this is an exciting opportunity to shape a solid and vibrant K-12 Drama and Theatre culture, leading the School’s curricular and co-curricular Drama journey while providing artistic leadership across performance, theatre-making and major Performing Arts productions. The role will foster opportunities for students to develop confidence, creativity, critical thinking and theatrical expression, while building meaningful pathways that connect Drama learning with performance, production, future study and the broader creative industries.

Working collaboratively with Drama staff, Performing Arts colleagues, resident and external artists and the School’s production teams, you will provide strategic and artistic leadership that strengthens internal capability, responds to contemporary theatre practice and student interests, and supports ambitious, relevant and sustainable creative outcomes.

You will demonstrate





- Specialist qualifications and experience in Drama and/or Theatre, with expertise in Drama education, performance and theatre-making.
- Current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
- A strong body of high-quality theatrical and/or creative work across school and/or professional arts settings.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing a successful Drama and Theatre program, including curricular and co-curricular opportunities.
- Demonstrated success in leading, mentoring and developing others and building a cohesive, collaborative and accountable team.
- A broad and adaptable theatrical practice, with experience across Drama pedagogy, directing, performance, theatre-making and production, alongside an understanding of contemporary theatrical practice.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement progressive learning and performance opportunities that support both artistic excellence and broad student participation.
- A creative, strategic and big-picture thinker who can translate a vision for Drama and Theatre into meaningful, relevant and sustainable action.
- An ability to build productive relationships with professional artists, theatre practitioners, companies, training organisations and other industry partners, using external expertise strategically to complement internal capability.
- Strong planning, organisational and communication skills,



with the ability to manage complex programs, projects, productions and events.
- A willingness and availability to work evenings and weekends when required for rehearsals, performances, production calls and Performing Arts events.
- Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion, participation and the development of confidence, creativity, collaboration and connectedness through Drama and Theatre.
- Current First Aid and Anaphylaxis certification is essential.
