About the Role

Bega Garnbirringu is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Practitioner – Enrolled Nurse to join our Clinic team. Working within a small and supportive team environment, the position aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the provision of comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care services.

The primary function of this position is to provide high-quality health care, including health assessment, examination, treatment and case management, while contributing to holistic models of health care and continuity of care.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with other health professionals and Bega Garnbirringu programs to provide culturally safe and effective services to clients.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide high-quality, culturally appropriate primary health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
- Conduct health assessments, examinations and appropriate health screening.
- Provide treatment, health education and preventative health care within the scope of practice.
- Support client case management and continuity of care.
- Contribute to holistic models of health care that respond to the needs of Aboriginal people.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team.




- Develop and maintain respectful and effective relationships with clients, families and community members.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people and communities.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and timely clinical records.
- Provide appropriate referrals and follow-up care in collaboration with other health professionals.
- Participate in health promotion and community health activities.
- Contribute to service improvement and quality improvement activities.
- Comply with professional standards, organisational policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
- Participate in outreach services and regional travel, including overnight stays, as required.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have:

- Relevant qualification in Nursing.
- Current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people and communities.
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique health issues and challenges impacting Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated experience, skills and knowledge in multidisciplinary teamwork and conflict management.
- Sound written, computer and communication skills, together with demonstrated organisational and time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing needs.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing culturally safe, respectful and client-centred health care.

Applicants must also have:

- Current WA C Class Driver's Licence.
- Valid Working with Children Check (WA).
- National Criminal History Check / Police Clearance valid within the last three months.
- Current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse.

Desirable Criteria

- Experience working in Community Health or Aboriginal Health.
- Current Immunisation Certificate.
- Current Phlebotomy competency and evidence of currency of practice.




- Knowledge and experience using Communicare or a similar clinical database system.
- Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary primary health care team.
- Ability and willingness to undertake outreach travel for up to four nights at a time, if required.
- Knowledge of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
