Founded in 1866 by Saint Mary MacKillop and Fr Julian Tenison Woods, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart operates as a registered charity with central offices in Sydney, regional offices across Australia and offices in New Zealand and Ireland and a presence in some other countries.
The Nundah Convent, part of the Queensland Region, is the home of Sisters in Nundah, Qld. There are usually 16 permanent residents with a further 3 places available for offering hospitality to visitors and/or Sisters who may be recuperating from illness.
What we offer
We currently have an opportunity for a permanent full-time Home Care Support Worker to join the team at Nundah Convent. Reporting to the Operations Manager and working in collaboration with the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator (RN), this role is responsible for providing housekeeping, hospitality, personal care and wellbeing support to Sisters living at and visiting the convent. This position works a regular roster of Saturday to Wednesday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
About you
We are looking for someone who has completed a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) or equivalent, with experience supporting older people, who can provide personal care, respond sensitively to individual needs and build positive relationships.
The successful candidate will be compassionate, reliable and practical, with the ability to deliver high-quality support while contributing to the comfort and wellbeing of the Sisters at the Nundah Convent.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide personal care and daily living assistance to Sisters, including showering, dressing, toileting and other activities of daily living.
- Support Sisters recuperating at Nundah Convent through practical assistance, personal care and wellbeing support.
- Prepare and serve meals and assist with dining room and kitchen cleaning duties.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of Sisters' apartments, guest rooms and community areas.
- Undertake laundry duties, linen changes and restocking of supplies throughout the convent.
- Monitor and report maintenance issues, hazards, incidents and concerns relating to the health and wellbeing of Sisters.
- Assist with transporting Sisters from hospital to the convent and other support activities as required.
- Respond to emergency calls from Sisters and building emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
- Contribute to a welcoming, respectful and hospitable environment consistent with the values and mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (SELECTION CRITERIA):
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) or equivalent.
- Experience supporting older people in an aged care, home care, disability support or similar workplace.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Current Queensland Driver Licence.
- Demonstrated ability to provide personal care with empathy, dignity and respect.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement and work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
