Primary objective

Assist inpatient service teams in providing a safe and clean setting, maintain impress stock levels, order supplies from Katherine

Hospital Stores inventory and support the efficient operation of ward services.

Context statement The Hospital Assistant provides operational support across Katherine Hospital inpatient services, contributing to the delivery of safe,

effective and culturally responsive patient care. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role is responsible for maintaining ward stock levels, ordering supplies and equipment, supporting admissions, discharges and transfers,



and ensuring patient care areas are maintained to a high standard. The position plays an important role in supporting the efficient operation of ward services and positive patient outcomes.

This position is available within one inpatient service area at Katherine Hospital: Jack Roney Ward, General Medical and Surgical.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist inpatient ward staff with stores, equipment and the efficient running of ward services.
2. Assist staff to maintain clean, safe and organised patient care areas.
3. Maintain ward impress stock levels and order supplies as required.
4. Participate in Quality Management activities.
5. Work towards the objectives of Katherine hospital and Top End Health Service.
6. Assist with answering telephone and visitor enquiries.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated competent literacy, numeracy skills and computer literacy.
2. Well-developed interpersonal and communicative skills.
3. Previous experience working in a hospital environment and understanding of principles of hygiene and asepsis.
4. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Further information The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the position. This role carries specific immunisation requirements. To be eligible for appointment, you will be required to meet the immunisation requirements associated with Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances).
