Steamtech Engineering Pty Ltd – Hallam, Melbourne VIC
Full Time | $50–$55 per hour + Company Vehicle
Steamtech Engineering is an established Australian-owned specialist boiler service and engineering company based in Hallam, Victoria.
For more than 50 years we have provided service, maintenance and engineering support for industrial steam and hot-water boilers across Victoria, working with major food and beverage manufacturers, hospitals and industrial facilities.
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our technical team.
You don't need to already be a boiler expert.
If you're an excellent industrial mechanical fitter, we can teach you boilers.
The role
This is a hands-on industrial field service and maintenance role, with a strong focus on annual boiler maintenance, plant shutdowns, mechanical overhaul and breakdown work. You'll work across a variety of industrial customer sites rather than maintaining the same production equipment every day.
Typical work will include
- Industrial steam and hot-water boiler annual maintenance
- Planned shutdown maintenance and overhaul work
- Removal and refitting of industrial burners
- Boiler front and rear door removal and reassembly
- Boiler mountings, gauge glasses and associated mechanical equipment
- Pumps, valves, actuators and steam/water systems
- Bearings, seals, shafts, couplings and mechanical drives
- Flanged joints, gaskets and bolted connections
- Mechanical fault finding and breakdown repairs
- Preparation of boilers and pressure equipment for statutory inspection
- Reassembly and preparation of plant for return to service
- General industrial plant maintenance
- Workshop overhaul and preparation work
- Working alongside our electrical,
mechanical plumbing & Type B Gasfitting Technicians
Who we're looking for
- Trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter / Fitter & Turner or equivalent
- Ideally 5+ years post-trade industrial maintenance experience
- Strong hands-on mechanical ability
- Experience dismantling, inspecting, repairing and reassembling industrial equipment
- Confident working with pumps, valves, bearings, seals, shafts, couplings and mechanical plant
- Good mechanical fault-finding skills
- Industrial shutdown and preventative maintenance experience
- Able to work independently once familiar with the equipment
- Good attention to detail and quality of workmanship
- Comfortable dealing directly with industrial customers
- Current Victorian driver's licence
- Willing to participate in reasonable overtime and planned weekend shutdown work
Boiler experience is highly regarded but not essential. Experience with steam systems, pressure equipment, industrial burners, process plants, food and beverage manufacturing, rotating equipment or industrial field service would also be highly regarded.
What we offer
- $50–$55 per hour, depending on experience and capability
- Company vehicle
- Paid overtime at applicable rates
- 38-hour working week
- Early finish every Friday
- Uniform, phone & laptop provided
- Specialist boiler training
- Ongoing technical development
- Varied industrial field-service work
- Established high-end industrial customer base
- Small, experienced technical team
- Stable, long-term full-time employment
Our normal working hours are: Monday–Thursday: 7:00am–3:30pm
Friday: 7:00am–1:00pm
Industrial shutdown work sometimes needs to be completed outside normal hours, including weekends. This is an established part of the position and overtime is paid accordingly.
Develop into a specialist field
We're not expecting the successful applicant to know everything about boilers on day one. We're looking for someone who already has a strong mechanical foundation.
We'll provide the boiler-specific training and experience required to develop your knowledge of industrial boilers, steam systems, burners, pressure equipment and associated plant.
For the right person, this provides an opportunity to take established mechanical fitting skills and develop them into a specialist industrial boiler career.
About you
You'll suit Steamtech if you're someone who takes pride in mechanical work, enjoys solving problems, likes wide-ranging industrial environments and wants responsibility rather than needing to be closely supervised. We're particularly interested in someone looking for a long-term position who wants to become an important part of a small specialist technical team.
If you're an experienced industrial Mechanical Fitter looking for something more varied than maintaining the same production equipment every day, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply through SEEK with your resume and a brief introduction outlining your mechanical and industrial maintenance experience.
