Sydney

Tidal is a Sydney-based ventures fund investing across Australia and the US.

We are currently deploying out of Fund IV, and we're looking for an Investment Associate who can meet with founders, run analysis and work with the partners to execute investments.

If you've spent 2-3 years in VC, growth equity, banking or consulting and you're itching to get closer to the actual decisions - sourcing, diligence, portfolio work, the lot - this is that opportunity.

This is a Sydney based role, at our offices in the Sydney CBD.

What you'll actually be doingYou'll be in the deal flow:

- Sourcing and screening - meeting with founders and building conviction
- Diligence - market sizing, competitive mapping, reference calls, financial modelling - the unglamorous work that makes or breaks an investment decision
- Portfolio support - helping our founders with significant things that are hard to hire for on day 1: investment planning, pipeline analysis, raising capital
- Investment committee prep - you'll work with Principals and Partners to bring deal opportunities to investment committee, and engage in thorough debate. If your thinking is sharp, it gets heard.

What we need you to already have2-3 years of relevant experience. VC, growth equity, investment banking, or consulting. You need you to be able to reason clearly under ambiguity and back it with research and numbers.

Genuine AI technical proficiency. Not "I use ChatGPT to draft emails." We mean you can actually evaluate AI-native products by using them, and use AI tools yourself to work faster and sharper - from research to modelling to memo-writing.

If you haven't already been using AI to execute your core work day to day, this may not be the job for you.

An actual passion for early-stage company building. Not "I like the idea of VC." We want someone who reads about founders and product decisions for fun, who has opinions about why some companies scale and others stall, and who wants a front-row seat to the messy wonder of building AI-native businesses in this new technology era.

What will make you stand out

- You've got a point of view on where AI is actually creating durable value versus where it's just a feature
- You're comfortable being wrong in a room and updating fast - we'd rather you challenge a thesis than nod along
- You think in systems: if a process is chaos, you want to fix the process, not just survive it
- You can write - clearly, concisely, and in a way that builds conviction in an opportunity

What you get
- Direct exposure to every stage of the investment process, not a sliver of it. Working in a small fund is an excellent way to get exposure to all aspects of the job
- A seat at a fund that's actively building out its US strategy and scaling up
- Partners who'll push back on your thinking and expect you to push back on theirs
- A genuinely collegial, no-BS team - we take the work seriously, not ourselves

How to applySend us your CV and a short note on one early-stage company you think is either wildly overhyped or criminally underrated - and why. We want to see how you think, not just what you've done. Use whatever tools you like, AI included, but show us how you got there: what you asked, what you checked, where you disagreed with it. We're less interested in the take than in how you built it.
