Memjet is a global leader in digital inkjet technology developing high-speed printing solutions used worldwide. Our multidisciplinary engineering teams design and support advanced print engines, precision mechanical systems, fluidic delivery systems, manufacturing equipment, and next-generation printing technologies.
We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team and contribute to the development, testing, improvement, and support of innovative printing and manufacturing technologies.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, development, testing, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and components used in Memjet products and manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with cross functional teams including mechatronics, systems, fluidics, electrical, firmware, process and manufacturing. This is a full-time, onsite role and will suit someone with flexibility to travel overseas as required to support activities at our partner sites.
Your responsibilities:
- Conceptualise, design and develop precision mechanical components and sub-assemblies for commercial digital printing systems.
- Assist in migration of theoretical data to develop real world components.
- Capture the design intent of a product concept model & produce patent documentation.
- Develop and implement ideas into CAD models using 3D CAD.
- Develop mechanical solutions for print engine integration, motion systems, paper handling mechanisms, fluidic systems and supporting product infrastructure.
- Develop & debug electro-mechanical sub-system components.
- Develop verification and validation plans to confirm compliance against actual product capabilities/requirements.
- Prototype the design and assembly of test fixtures for use in mechanical testing.
- Organise and conduct mechanical, environmental, reliability, life-cycle and performance testing.
- Execute test plans and document results such that problems can be reproduced and studied.
- Generate test reports and analyse test results to recommend design improvements based on engineering data.
- Perform mechanical product research in a laboratory environment, including life testing.
- Develop assembly processes, work instructions, engineering specifications and manufacturing documentation.
- Perform FEA, DFMEA, FMEA, FAI, GD&T;, CPM & GR&R;, mould flow & tolerance analysis.
- Drive product and process improvements to enhance reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost competitiveness.
- Investigate production issues and project risks and implement engineering improvements to improve quality, efficiency and reliability.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable Australian and international engineering safety, quality and regulatory standards.
- Support engineering change management activities and product lifecycle management processes.
- Travel internationally as required to support departmental activities and business objectives.
Experience & Skills:
Essential
- At least 3 years’ practical experience in the design and development of electro-mechanical products and systems.
- Demonstrated experience in the hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing of prototype electro-mechanical systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering, product development & testing for high volume manufacture.
- Proven ability to interpret engineering specifications and technical requirements.
- SolidWorks and PDM proficient.
- Practical experience in evaluating and selecting materials, manufacturing processes and mechanical components to achieve cost, performance, reliability and manufacturability objectives.
- Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with external contractors and suppliers.
- Interpersonal skills and abilities to communicate and work in a team environment amongst all levels of the organisation.
Desirable
- Experience in working at OEM sites overseas (Current Product Introduction).
