Conservation Council of Western Australia

West Perth

Are you a skilled communications professional who wants your work to protect Western Australia's most extraordinary landscapes?

The Conservation Council of Western Australia (CCWA) is the state's leading conservation and environment organisation, working with government, industry, media and community to protect our natural environment. This role is employed by CCWA and embedded within The Pew Charitable Trusts, reflecting a long-standing alliance partnership. You will work primarily on two major campaigns: WA Better by Nature and Kimberley Like Nowhere Else.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role. You will set the media strategy for high-profile conservation campaigns, exercising judgement on positioning, timing and risk, while also personally writing media releases, opinion pieces and briefing materials, creating digital content and directing media events and interviews. It suits someone equally comfortable shaping high-level campaign narrative and doing the detailed work of getting a story published.

As Media and Communications Lead, you will build strong relationships with journalists and stakeholders across the state, translate complex policy and scientific issues into compelling public content, and lead communications planning around major campaign milestones, shaping narratives that resonate across metropolitan, regional and remote WA.

What you will bring:

- Substantial experience in media, communications, journalism or public affairs, with a demonstrated capacity to work autonomously

- Exceptional writing skills and sound editorial judgement across media releases, opinion pieces and campaign content
- A comprehensive understanding of the WA media landscape and the ability to identify newsworthy opportunities

- Experience creating digital content, including social media, video and graphics

- Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills within partnership and alliance settings
- A genuine commitment to the conservation of nature and protection of Western Australia's unique biodiversity

Experience working alongside Traditional Owner organisations and First Nations Peoples, and familiarity with environmental or public policy issues, will be highly regarded.

This is a rare opportunity to bring both big-picture thinking and on-the-ground delivery to campaigns with real, lasting impact on the future of Western Australia's workplace.

Apply before 12 October with your resume and a cover letter (max. 2 pages) addressing the essential criteria.
