Burwood East

About the role

We’re looking for an Occupational Therapist to join Back to Basics Health Group, with full-time, part-time and independent contractor options available. We welcome OTs at every career stage.

You’ll work with clients across the lifespan, helping them participate in everyday activities that are important to them. We’ll discuss a caseload that balances your experience and interests with client needs, with supervision and a gradual caseload build for graduates and early career clinicians.

We support clients through a range of funding arrangements, including NDIS, aged care, TAC, WorkSafe, DVA and Medicare, as well as privately funded services. Your caseload may include different funding streams, with guidance on their documentation and reporting requirements.

Most appointments take place in clients’ homes and other community settings across Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs. Our admin team groups appointments geographically where possible to reduce driving. Our Burwood East home base is available for suitable onsite therapy and group programs, and reports and other suitable tasks can be completed from home.

Key responsibilities

- Conduct assessments, deliver ongoing therapy and prepare reports and practical recommendations.

- Assess clients’ assistive technology (AT) and equipment needs, arrange trials, and prepare prescriptions and funding recommendations within your experience and scope of practice.

- Work with clients, families and support teams to put strategies into daily use.

- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation.

- Participate in weekly team connection and collaboration, and monthly multidisciplinary learning sessions, at our Burwood East home base.

- Share ideas for creating and improving services, and contribute to group programs.

About you

- A recognised OT qualification and AHPRA registration before commencing.

- Australian citizen or permanent resident.

- A current Australian driver's licence and reliable vehicle for community appointments.

- A current National Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and a Working with Children Check where required.

- Current First Aid Level 2 and CPR training, or willingness to complete before commencing.

- An interest in working collaboratively and supporting clients' everyday goals.

- Openness to supporting clients across the lifespan, and learning and trying new things.

- Contractors also need an ABN and appropriate insurance.

Benefits

Choose the working arrangement that suits you: full time or part time employment, or independent contracting. Whichever option you choose, you’ll be part of our team, with access to resources, support and career development.

For employees and contractors:

- An extensive shared therapy resource library, online subscriptions, clinical tools, materials and stationery—you don’t need to fund your own collection.

- A laptop, mobile phone and tablet, with digital systems and administrative support for client contact, bookings and invoicing.

- Regular individual and group supervision, mentoring and support tailored to your experience.

- Weekly team connection at Burwood East and monthly multidisciplinary learning sessions.

- A personalised 12-month induction plan, reviewed quarterly, followed by annual development planning through ASPIRE.

- Built-in career pathways for every team member, including our 12-month IGNITE Leadership Development Program for those interested in leadership.

- Internal learning and up to $2,000 per year for individual development.

- Opportunities to contribute to group programs, suggest improvements and help develop new services.

- Access to a care program for you and your family, including counselling and wellbeing resources.

- Flexible working arrangements, with community appointments, suitable onsite work and the option to complete reports and other suitable tasks from home.

For employees:

- $80,000–$120,000 base salary, full-time equivalent, depending on experience and responsibilities, plus 12% superannuation.

- A $5,000 annual travel allowance, pro rata for part-time employment.

- Paid leave and agreed billable expectations, with flexibility to schedule appointments across your working week.

For contractors:

- $80–$100/hour for appointments and $90–$110/hour for approved, chargeable reports and other client-specific work, depending on experience. Rates include superannuation.

- Payment for the full standard 70-minute appointment allocation: 10 minutes preparation, 45 minutes with the client and 15 minutes for notes. That’s $93.33–$116.67 per standard appointment, including telehealth, before eligible travel payments.

- Eligible travel is paid separately on top of hourly contract rates: $9.70–$48.50 per appointment for travel time, inclusive of super, plus $0.99 per eligible kilometre. Travel is calculated from our registered Rowville office for each eligible appointment (even when appointments are grouped nearby to reduce driving) subject to the client’s address and funding arrangements.

- Choose your available hours and days, with no billable targets. Training and supervision are provided at no cost. Contractors are not paid for attending general meetings, training or supervision.

About us

Our multidisciplinary team shares knowledge, asks questions and works together, supported by an extensive library of practical resources, clear processes and regular supervision.

We listen to feedback from clients and team members, using it to improve how we work and develop new services.
