The Operations and Inventory Manager is responsible for bringing discipline, visibility and forward planning to HIA’s operational activities. This role will ensure the right mix of imported and locally manufactured products are available when required, while maintaining an orderly warehouse, coordinating local production and supervising the operational team.
The central purpose of the role is to reduce the General Manager’s day-to-day involvement in stock control, back-orders, manufacturing oversight and warehouse supervision, enabling greater focus on customers, market development and business growth.
Your Responsibilities
· Monitor stock, committed orders, back-orders, incoming shipments and available-to-sell quantities using HIA’s business management system.
· Maintain appropriate minimum stock levels,
reorder points and product-size mix across imported and locally manufactured ranges.
· Coordinate purchasing and replenishment, track supplier lead times and flag potential supply risks early.
· Plan and monitor local manufacturing work orders, including cutting, sewing, labelling, finishing, quality checking and packing.
· Coordinate the assembly and packing of selected configured products, including paediatric seating systems.
· Maintain an orderly, secure and efficient warehouse, with clear storage locations by product, model, size and component.
· Oversee receiving, put-away, picking, packing, dispatch preparation and physical stock checks.
· Set daily priorities for the warehouse team members and sewing machinists, monitor progress and ensure tasks are completed properly.
· Maintain accurate operational data and provide the General Manager with concise updates on stock, backorders, production and supply risks.
· Improve warehouse, inventory and manufacturing processes to reduce stockouts, delays and avoidable operational follow-up.
· Ensure ISO 9001 Quality systems are sound, measured, reported, and followed
Experience and Skills
· Experience in inventory control, warehouse operations,
stock planning or a comparable operational role.
· Experience supervising a small team and setting clear priorities and standards.
· Confidence using inventory, ERP or business management systems and interpreting stock and sales reports.
· Strong organisation, attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills.
· A hands-on approach and willingness to work across the system, warehouse and production floor.
· Ability to manage varied products, sizes, components and supplier lead times.
· Clear communication and sound judgement when escalating supply, quality or service risks.
Desirable
· Experience in healthcare, assistive technology, medical devices or disability equipment.
· Experience coordinating imported products and international suppliers.
· Forklift licence or relevant workplace safety training.
We are looking for someone who is systematic, proactive and reliable, with a strong focus on following tasks through to completion. They should remain practical and calm when demand, shipments or priorities change, while being respectful but appropriately firm in setting standards and holding others accountable. The key to this role is to understand the important relationship between stock availability, customer service, cash flow and sales.
