Money Over 50 Financial Advisers is a locally owned financial planning business based in Townsville. We specialise in helping people over 50 prepare for retirement and become financially independent through practical retirement planning, superannuation, investment and tax-effective strategies.

We are a small team, so this role will give you exposure to how a financial planning business actually operates rather than having you sitting in one narrow function.

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and capable person to join our team in a paid casual internship / trainee role. You do not need previous financial planning experience, a finance degree or even a background in financial services.

You might be studying, recently graduated, taking a break from university, working in hospitality, events, administration or another industry entirely, or simply thinking about changing direction.

What matters more to us is whether you are capable, reliable, good with people, willing to learn and able to improve as you gain experience.

The role will initially involve a combination of client administration, business projects and support work while you learn how our business operates.

Your responsibilities may include

- Assisting with the preparation of client documents
- Updating client information and completing data entry
- Formatting documents, reports and correspondence
- Assisting with general business and client administration projects
- Preparing for client meetings
- Greeting and interacting with clients
- Liaising with superannuation funds and other external providers
- Assisting with website, marketing and general business activities
- Supporting the advisers and paraplanners with day-to-day tasks

As your knowledge and confidence develop, there will be opportunities to take on more technical financial planning and paraplanning-related work.

- Has strong attention to detail
- Communicates naturally and professionally
- Is comfortable dealing with clients
- Can work independently as well as within a small team
- Takes feedback well and improves with experience
- Is organised and capable of managing competing priorities
- Has a basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Is interested in learning more about financial planning and how the strategies we recommend actually work

You do not need technical financial knowledge when you start — we can teach you the financial planning side. However, as the role develops, you will need to be comfortable learning increasingly complex concepts and understanding the reasoning behind the advice we provide. Be honest with yourself about whether that is something you would enjoy and be capable of developing into.

Hours and pay

- $35 per hour + superannuation
- Approximately 15–30 hours per week
- Casual position initially
- Based in our Townsville office
- Flexibility around university commitments where applicable
- Australian citizens and permanent residents only

This is an in-office position and is not available remotely.

Future opportunity

For the right person, this does not necessarily need to remain an internship. There may be an opportunity to transition into a permanent part-time or full-time Advice Assistant or Paraplanner role, with additional responsibilities, training and salary progression as your skills develop.

We are happy to develop someone who proves themselves, regardless of what they were doing before they joined us.
