The branch is responsible for:

- Delivering payroll services for approximately 2,300 MOP(S) Act employees across Australia, supported by HR Helpdesk and IT systems support
- Developing and delivering the MOP(S) Act employment framework, in consultation with relevant agencies and employees
- Administering HR services for the MOP(S) workforce
- Advising Ministers and other stakeholders on policy matters relating to legislation administered by the Department
- Providing policy advice on reforms to Commonwealth parliamentary workplaces, including contributing to implementation of recommendations from Set the Standard: Report on the Independent Review into Commonwealth Parliamentary Workplaces.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITIES

We have several vacant positions at various levels in the HR Operations and Service Management Team.



The team members will be required to undertake tasks related to payroll and administrative processes and provide advice and support to approximately 2,300 staff of parliamentarians throughout their employment cycle. You must be able to work effectively under pressure, have strong verbal and written communication skills, and be able to collaborate with your Helpdesk team members to provide a high standard of service to federal parliamentarians and their staff.

You will be required to monitor your own workload and prioritise tasks, and be an enthusiastic team member who is willing to assist your peers by taking on additional work where required.

The team is based in Canberra and has approximately 30 members split into sub-teams responsible for providing payroll, systems and administrative services to staff employed under the under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 (MOP(S) Act).

As an APS Level 4 Payroll Officer you are required to undertake Payroll processing tasks of moderate complexity and work with limited direction. The successful applicant will be required to:

- Process payments of salary and related allowances to staff employed under the MOP(S) Act using the SAP payroll system.
- Administer MOP(S) Act staff commencements and cessations, including updates to relevant databases and systems.
- Supervise and check processing of payments of salaries and related allowances undertaken by junior team members.
- Respond to requests for advice from MOP(S) Act staff, in relation to pay and conditions of service, either through direct contact with clients or through the Helpdesk. This can include drafting standard and non-standard correspondence.
- Assist other teams as required.




- Ensure accurate interpretation and application of relevant legislation used to process entitlements for Members of Parliament and their employees.

Eligibility

- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.

All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
