Where the team fits in

The Content Moderation Platform squad is building the tools and services that help REA identify, review and act on harmful or non-compliant content more quickly and consistently. Our mission is to build the tools, services and standards that keep the REA community secure and trusted.

What the role is all about

n

The Associate Engineer roleisresponsible forcontributing to the design, development, testing,deploymentandmaintenanceofsoftware systems. Working within an agile cross-functional team and reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role supports the delivery of secure,scalable,and maintainable software systems. The Associate Engineerparticipatesin the full software development lifecycle, collaborates with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and progressively develops technical capability while contributing to high-quality engineering outcomes. Day to day of the role you'll be doing:

- Design, develop and implement software features,enhancementsand bug fixes in line with technical specifications and coding standards.
n
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code using approved programming languages and frameworks.
n
- Develop andmaintainautomated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end)



to support continuous integration and delivery.
n
- Participate in peer code reviews to ensure quality, performance, and adherence to engineering standards.
n
- Maintain and improve existing applications and services, including defect resolution and minor refactoring.
n
- Assistin monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues tomaintainsystem reliability.
n
- Follow security, compliance and change management practices to safeguard systems and data.
n
- Contribute to technical documentation, including system design,APIsand development processes.
n
- Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-upsand retrospectives.
n
- Collaborate with Product Managers,Designersand other stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver technical solutions.
n
- Communicate progress,risksand technical issues in a clear andtimelymanner.
n
- Engage in continuous professional development and applyorganisationalengineering standards in daily work.
n

Who we're looking for

n

n
- Tertiaryqualificationin Computer Science, Software Engineering, InformationTechnologyora relateddiscipline.
n
- Minimum 12 months' software development experience, withproficiencyin at least one language such as Scala, Kotlin or Java.
n
- Working knowledge of Agile/Kanban methodologiesand experience working effectively within a cross-functional team.
n
- Foundational full-stack development skills, with an understanding of front-end, back-end and data-driven systems.
n
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including coding standards,



software design principles, versioncontroland automated testing.
n
- Strong problem-solving,debuggingand communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
n
- Growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning, with the ability to balance technical quality with pragmatic delivery of business value.
