NQ Project Partners

Cairns

About the role

Build the roads that keep Far North Queensland connected.

NQ Project Partners is seeking experienced Project Engineers to join our delivery team in Cairns, working on civil infrastructure projects across North Queensland, including current works on the Bruce Highway.

Our engineers work on site, embedded within principal contractor delivery teams, running the works. We work alongside reputable contractors to deliver complex civil construction projects on the Transport and Main Roads network, from pavement rehabilitation and betterment through to major highway and intersection upgrades.

You will take ownership of a defined section of works and be accountable for its engineering, quality and commercial performance from start to completion, with the support of an experienced delivery team.

This is a construction-based role. It involves consistent, regular site presence and travel across Far North Queensland. We are looking for engineers with a genuine interest in how infrastructure is built and a commitment to seeing work delivered to completion.

NQ Project Partners is an Indigenous-owned and women-led business, established in 2022, delivering across Far North Queensland.

Key responsibilities

- Plan, sequence and coordinate your allocated section of works, and maintain an accurate and achievable program
- Manage quality and conformance, including ITPs, lot documentation and conformance reporting to TMR requirements
- Scope, procure and manage subcontractors and suppliers, and hold them accountable to their contractual obligations
- Prepare progress claims, price and substantiate variations, and support extension of time claims
- Track cost against budget and identify commercial issues early enough to be addressed
- Manage RFIs, design queries and site instructions with the client and superintendent
- Undertake site inspections and surveys,

and resolve constructability issues before they affect the program
- Identify project risks early and implement practical mitigation measures
- Plan and deliver the works in a manner that meets safety and environmental obligations
- Maintain accurate project records, including correspondence, site diaries and project data, to a standard that withstands commercial scrutiny

What we're looking for

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a strong site background with equivalent capability
- 3 - 6 years in civil construction delivery. Roads, drainage, pavements or bridges
- Experience working under contract models include TIC-CO, CPA, TIC-TPC
- Working knowledge of TMR MRTS specifications and the associated quality regime
- Confidence preparing progress claims, variations and contract correspondence
- Clear and concise written communication, particularly under contractual timeframes
- A genuine interest in construction, and a habit of looking for a better way to do the work rather than repeating what was done last time
- Sound organisational skills and the ability to manage several work fronts concurrently
- Competence with Microsoft Office and project management or document control systems
- Current C class licence, and willingness to travel to sites across Far North Queensland
- White card and construction inductions, or the willingness to obtain them

What we offer

- Salary of $140,000 to $170,000 (depending on experience)

plus superannuation and a fully maintained vehicle
- Structured support toward RPEQ, including mentoring and exposure across the required competencies
- Direct commercial exposure. You will prepare claims and variations and deal with the projects commercial requirements yourself, rather than passing it up the line
- Exposure across multiple contractors, contract types and project phases, which is difficult to get in a single contractor role
- Purpose-built systems and automation that remove the administrative load, so your time goes into the work rather than the paperwork around it
- A senior team with decades of North Queensland delivery experience, and direct access to the directors
- A explicit path into Senior Engineer and Project Manager roles as the business grows
- Cairns as a base, with work located across Far North Queensland

About us

NQ Project Partners is a Cairns-based civil infrastructure delivery business. We work within principal contractor delivery teams across Far North Queensland, delivering Transport and Main Roads and disaster recovery funded projects.

Our people have delivered through Yasi recovery, NDRRA pavement programs and major TMR projects across the state. We are a small and senior team by design. You will know everyone in the business and you will deal with the directors directly.

Although our engineers are placed across different projects, we bring the team together regularly to work through what is happening on each job. Specification interpretation, contractual issues, methods that worked and ones that did not, and the systems we are building to make the work easier. You are placed with a contractor, but you are not on your own.

NQ Project Partners is Indigenous-owned and women-led. We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
