Our teams operate across Australia, New Zealand, Asia and North America, bringing together scientific expertise, quality and collaboration to help accelerate the development of new therapies.
We are seeking a capable and delivery-focused Project Manager – EPMO to join our Enterprise Project Management Office. In this role, you will manage internal strategic and operational initiatives that improve how Avance Clinical delivers for its people, clients and business.
Working within our tiered EPMO governance model, you will lead projects aligned to your experience and demonstrated delivery capability—from Tier 1 Explore initiatives through to Tier 2 Build and Tier 3 Transform projects. You will apply sound project-management discipline, partner with senior stakeholders, and help ensure the benefits and return on investment from our internal initiatives are clearly defined, tracked and realised.
What you’ll do
- Lead assigned EPMO projects across Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 initiatives, applying project-management controls appropriate to the project’s scale, complexity and strategic impact.
- Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resource plans, risks, issues, changes, stakeholder communications and delivery milestones.
- Work within the EPMO framework, including project intake, prioritisation, governance, reporting, assurance and closeout requirements.
- Partner with business sponsors to develop clear and concise business cases for Tier 2 initiatives, including the rationale, scope, cost, effort, risks, expected outcomes and return on investment.
- Deliver Tier 3 transformation initiatives under the strategic oversight of the EPMO Director, with strong engagement from Executive Leadership Team sponsors.
- Contribute to benefits realisation by establishing baseline measures, monitoring delivery outcomes and providing data for ROI and portfolio reporting.
- Maintain accurate project information within the EPMO portfolio dashboard, including delivery status, financials, resourcing, risks, dependencies, scope changes and benefits data.
- Facilitate requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, training, implementation and organisational change-management activities.
- Identify and escalate emerging project risks, material scope changes and threshold breaches that may require additional governance or a change in project tier.
- Build effective working relationships across IT, Technology and Innovation, Quality and Compliance, Finance, Clinical Operations and senior business leaders.
- Manage external vendors where required, ensuring deliverables, timelines and contractual requirements are met.
- Prepare clear project updates for the EPMO Director and contribute to monthly Executive Leadership Team portfolio reports.
- Help improve EPMO tools, templates, standards, reporting and perks-tracking practices through continuous improvement and lessons learned.
What you’ll bring
- A bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Formal project-management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2,
Agile or Scrum is highly regarded.
- Practical experience managing projects in a structured environment, with the scope of responsibility aligned to your level of capability:
- Tier 1 – Explore: Early-career project-management experience, or transferable experience delivering small, single-team initiatives.
- Tier 2 – Build: At least three years’ experience managing cross-functional internal projects with defined business cases and accountable sponsors.
- Tier 3 – Transform: At least five years’ experience leading strategic, multi-stream or business-transformation initiatives, including executive reporting and accountability for benefits delivery.
- Strong knowledge of waterfall, agile and hybrid project-delivery approaches, with the judgement to tailor methods to the work required.
- Experience in benefits realisation, ROI measurement, business-case development or outcomes reporting is desirable.
- Experience delivering technology, systems integration, ERP, CRM or business-process transformation projects will be highly regarded.
- Strong stakeholder-management, facilitation, negotiation and written communication skills.
- A proactive, organised and collaborative approach, with the confidence to identify delivery risks and escalate issues constructively.
At Avance Clinical, you will join a global, collaborative organisation where people are valued for their expertise, integrity and contribution. You will have the opportunity to work on initiatives that strengthen the systems, processes and capabilities behind high-quality clinical research—ultimately helping our teams support better health outcomes around the world.
