About the Team

As a member of the Australian Electoral Commission’s (AEC’s) Indigenous Electoral Participation Program (IEPP), you will support Assistant Directors, Senior Engagement Officers and project-based staff to strengthen electoral participation among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and contribute to more inclusive democratic processes. Your knowledge and expertise will help the AEC make Australian elections more accessible and inclusive for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culturally diverse communities.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the AEC and contribute to work that has a direct impact on Australia's democratic processes.

This role is designated as an Identified position. Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the ability to engage and communicate in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.

In this role, you will apply evidence-based approaches and best practice to develop and maintain key resources, support legislative and policy initiatives, and contribute to the AEC’s commitment to continuous improvement. You will also assist in preparing funding proposals, senior executive briefings and other program activities that support the outcomes of the IEPP.

To excel you’ll have

We are seeking a motivated and capable skilled who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience required to perform successfully in this role, including:

- Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and the factors that influence electoral participation and engagement.




- Demonstrated ability to communicate and engage respectfully, sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Experience in delivering results within a changing, complex or evolving environment, including procurement or contract management activities, or the ability to quickly acquire and apply these skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages and information for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated organisational skills, including attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes.
- Ability to identify issues, analyse information and contribute to practical solutions and continuous improvement.
- Proven capacity to work collaboratively within a team, build positive working relationships and contribute to shared outcomes.

Desirable

- Relevant qualifications or training in Indigenous studies, community engagement, education or a related field.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire and apply, relevant legislation, policies, programs and electoral processes.

- AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
