Our client is an established and growing mining operation at an exciting stage of its development. With a strong focus on safe, efficient and cost-effective underground mining, this is an opportunity to join a hands-on Technical Services team and have genuine influence on how the operation develops.
This role offers the opportunity to build a career in underground mining while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of being home every night, near a metro centre, without the compromises often associated with remote or outback mining operations.
The role is responsible for developing mine designs, supporting production delivery and identifying practical opportunities to improve productivity, quality and cost performance.
Reporting to the Mine Engineering Superintendent, you'll be part of a cooperative team of four Mining Engineers, providing a strong environment to share knowledge, develop technically and gain broad exposure across the underground operation.
The role will suit you if you are looking for:
- An underground mining role where you can be home every night
- A hands-on, operationally focused engineering position with plenty of time underground
- Broad exposure across mine planning, production, development and drill and blast
- The opportunity to work closely with frontline crews and see the direct impact of your work
- A dynamic environment where you can take ownership, solve problems and influence outcomes
- The chance to help improve systems, processes and operational performance
Your responsibilities will include:
- Mine design and planning: Developing stope, extraction, production drilling, charging and mine development designs, while supporting short-term and monthly mine planning
- Production support: Facilitating execution of the mine plan, identifying operational priorities and delays, and providing practical field-based technical support
- Drill and blast QAQC: Monitoring production drilling, drill hole deviation,
charging practices and compliance with approved plans
- Performance and improvement: Collecting and analysing production data, investigating schedule variance and identifying productivity and cost-saving opportunities
- Operational systems: Monitoring ventilation requirements, managing explosive requirements and contributing to discussions around mine plans, infrastructure and mine development
- Team capability: Working closely with operational teams and supporting training in production techniques, including charging and stope preparation
This is a genuinely collaborative role, working closely with your fellow Mining Engineers, the Mine Engineering Superintendent and the broader Technical Services, Mining, Processing and Maintenance teams to deliver safe, practical and effective operational outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:
- A degree qualification in Mining Engineering or a recognised equivalent
- Underground mining experience with exposure to mine planning, production and development activities
- Experience in underground drill and blast, including production drilling and charging
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to identify practical improvement opportunities
- Good organisational, communication and time-management skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities
- Experience with mining software and strong computer skills; Deswik and advanced Excel capability will be highly regarded
We're particularly interested in speaking with Mining Engineers who enjoy being close to the operation rather than being purely office-based. This role offers broad exposure across underground planning, production engineering and drill and blast, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to continue building their technical capability and take on increasing responsibility over time.
Relocation assistance is available and can be tailored to individual circumstances.
