PURCHASING SPECIALIST - Job Role is available NOW
· Right product. Right stock level. Right price. Right place. Right time.
· Hours: Monday to Friday 8.00am to 4.30pm
· Location: Shepparton
“OUTSTANDING PURCHASING ISN'T JUST ABOUT PLACING ORDERS. IT'S ABOUT KEEPING THE BUSINESS MOVING.”
Checking. Planning. Coordinating. Organising. Following up.
Knowing what stock is needed, what's been ordered, what's arriving, what's on backorder — and taking action before someone has to ask.
We are recruiting for an established Shepparton-based family business with a strong sales and customer focus.
This is an agile, down-to-earth business where people know each other, contribution matters and you won't disappear into a large corporate structure.
You'll be seen. You'll be valued. And your expertise will make a difference.
We're looking for an experienced Purchasing Specialist who is organised, proactive and commercially minded and takes real ownership of keeping purchasing, stock, suppliers and freight moving.
WHAT'S THE ROLE?
The outcome is straightforward
The right product. The right stock level. The right price. The right place. The right time.
You'll work closely with Sales and Customer Service, becoming an important link between customer demand, inventory, suppliers and freight.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring and maintaining Min/Max stock levels across the product range.
- Planning and ordering stock to support customer demand.
- Purchasing products required for specific sales orders.
- Checking orders, quantities, supplier pricing and expected delivery dates.
- Reviewing customer backorders and taking action to get them resolved.
- Following up suppliers for availability, supply issues and accurate ETAs.
- Working closely with Sales and Customer Service to resolve stock and customer-order issues.
- Managing supplier pricing structures and communicating price movements.
- Sourcing products in response to customer and sales requirements.
- Organising inbound freight and deliveries.
- Coordinating freight and delivery for drop-ship orders.
- Identifying potential stock, supply and delivery problems early and taking action.
- Keeping the team informed so customers receive accurate information and great service.
YOU KNOW HOW PURCHASING WORKS
You don't wait until someone asks:
“Where's that order?”
You're already checking.
If a customer order is sitting on backorder, you want to know why, when it's coming and what can be done about it.
If a supplier hasn't confirmed an order, you pick up the phone.
If freight hasn't arrived, you call the freight company and find out where it is.
If Sales needs a product sourced, you investigate the options, understand the price, availability and freight, and help find the best commercial solution.
You're not someone who simply processes purchasing transactions.
You take ownership.
ORGANISED. PROACTIVE. COMMERCIALLY MINDED.
These three things matter to us.
Organised — you can have multiple orders, suppliers, backorders and deliveries moving at once and still know where everything is.
Proactive — you look ahead. You check. You follow up. You communicate.
You take action before a small issue becomes a customer problem.
Commercially minded — you understand that price matters, but so do freight, stock levels, supplier performance, margin, availability and ultimately the customer outcome.
WHY JOIN?
This is a family business with a personal culture.
It's successful, sales driven and highly focused on looking after its customers, but it's also agile enough to make decisions and get things done.
Your role matters here.
You'll work closely with the people across the business rather than being one small part of a large purchasing department.
Your knowledge will be listened to. Your contribution will be visible. Your expertise can make a genuine difference to how the business operates and how well it services its customers.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING?
We're looking for someone with:
- Previous purchasing, procurement or inventory experience.
- Strong planning and organisational capability.
- A proactive approach and genuine sense of ownership.
- Commercial awareness around pricing, costs, freight, stock and margin.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Confidence dealing directly with suppliers and freight providers.
- Strong follow-through — you don't like loose ends.
- The ability to build strong internal relationships with Sales and Customer Service.
- Good systems capability.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach.
- A genuine desire to contribute to a business where what you do matters.
