Reliability-Centred Maintenance | Auckland, NZ | 6-Month Contract

SIMS Engineering Limited (NZ) — part of the IPM Engineering Group

Help rebuild reliability-centred maintenance capability across one of New Zealand’s largest and most critical water and wastewater networks, on an engagement that is explicitly the first step of a multi-year programme.

The Prospect

SIMS Engineering Limited (NZ) is assembling a team to tender for a specialist consultancy engagement with Watercare Services Limited, Auckland’s water and wastewater utility.

The brief: assess Watercare’s current maintenance capability and design the implementation roadmap for a reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) programme across its treatment plants, pump stations and transmission network. The consultant who performs well is well placed to be considered for the multi-year implementation programme that follows.

About Us

SIMS Engineering Limited (NZ) is part of the IPM Engineering Group, which delivers asset management and maintenance programmes, engineering consultancy and project management services for water and wastewater infrastructure across New Zealand and Australia.

What You Will Do

- Assess current state across asset data quality, INFOR/EAM systems configuration, FMECA and Availability Workbench (AWB) modelling status, and maintenance planning maturity.
- Facilitate structured workshops with Asset Integrity, Operations,

Maintenance and Digital teams to validate findings and build buy-in.
- Design a sequenced RCM delivery roadmap, with resourcing, dependencies, risks and quantified benefits.
- Present findings and the delivery plan to Asset Management leadership for sign-off.

What You Will Bring

- Hands-on experience designing and implementing reliability-centred maintenance programmes, applying standards such as ISO 14224, IEC 60300, SAE JA1011/JA1012, SAE J1739, BS EN 60812 and ISO 55000.
- Water and wastewater sector experience — strongly preferred, given the operational and regulatory context of critical utility assets.
- Comfort working directly with asset and work order data in an EAM-type system.
- A track record of turning FMECA/RCM analysis into implemented, sustained maintenance programmes, with two case studies and referees you can put forward.
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and operational teams.

The Details

- Location: Auckland, with site visits across the Auckland and North Waikato regions.
- Term: six months, expected to commence October or November 2026.
- Engagement basis: contract or subcontract, open to discussion.

How to Apply

Send your CV, and a short note on your RCM/FMECA experience and relevant case studies, to Ian Vedder at [email protected]. This role is being resourced ahead of a competitive tender submission, so early expressions of interest are appreciated
