This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the home and the team working within it. You’ll provide direction, supervision and support to Residential Care Workers while helping ensure young people receive safe, consistent and trauma-informed care.
You won’t simply oversee a roster. You’ll help shape the culture and practice of the house, build the capability of your team, manage risk and work alongside case managers, families and other professionals to keep each young person’s goals at the centre of their care.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll:

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the residential home
- Provide formal supervision, feedback and professional development to staff
- Role model strengths-based, child-centred and therapeutic practice
- Create a safe, stable and supportive workplace for young people with complex support needs
- Oversee risk, quality, compliance and practice within the home
- Work closely with Case Managers and the broader care team to progress each young person’s case plan and goals
- Ensure young people have a genuine voice in decisions and planning within their home
- Build strong relationships with families, community services,
government departments and other professionals
- Step into direct care and residential shifts when required.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for an experienced people leader who understands the realities of residential care and can confidently lead a diverse team while maintaining a high standard of care and practice. To be successful, you will have:
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree, such as Social Work, Community Services, Disability or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working with young people with high and complex support needs, including young people who have experienced complex trauma and require protective care.
- Strong experience leading and managing diverse teams, with the ability to provide clear direction, supervision, support and accountability across permanent and casual employees.
- A strong understanding of trauma-informed, therapeutic and child-centred practice, and the ability to embed this approach across a staff team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through complex and challenging situations, including managing competing priorities, team dynamics and change.
- Strong risk assessment and management skills, with the ability to identify and respond appropriately to actual and potential risks.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills,
with the ability to build respectful and effective relationships with young people, employees, families and other professionals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated negotiation, conflict resolution and crisis management capabilities.
