Primary objective The Revenue Officer assists with the administration of revenue assessment and collection, and with grant administration, and supports engagement activities with taxpayers and client reception functions.

Context statement The Operational Compliance unit oversees revenue collection, assessment and compliance for mineral and petroleum royalties,

payroll tax, stamp duty, and other duties. It manages housing grants, exemptions, and debt, provides front counter services, and assists with compliance case selection, intelligence-building, administers the Conveyance by Return program and national tax and local government equivalence arrangements.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Perform registrations and cancellations of taxpayers for returns based taxes administered by the Territory Revenue Office
2.



Assist in timely management and follow-up of debts and lodgement of outstanding returns.
3. Analyse and carry out assessments for tax liabilities to support revenue collection with attention to detail and integrity of data.
4. Analyse and process applications for grants, subsidies and exemptions.
5. Manage and respond to inquiries from the public using established guidelines, processes and procedures, and provide clear and

easy to understand information to meet customer and client needs.
1. Contribute positively to the efficient running of the unit including escalating complex issues, maintaining accurate records and

assisting with documentation of procedures, preparation of user manuals and conduct of revenue system testing.
- Provide backup support for Territory Revenue Office front counter operations.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Sound ability to understand, interpret, and apply legislation, policy and procedures.
2. Demonstrated procedural and analytical skills with capacity to quickly understand and interpret information to provide explicit

and accurate advice.
1. Demonstrated ability to complete high volume routine tasks, manage conflicting demands, set priorities and finish tasks on time

and to required standard.
1. Well-developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to present clear, concise and easy to

understand messages and communicate in plain English.
1. Demonstrated computer skills and experience using online systems to accurately enter data and financial information.
2. High degree of integrity and understanding of requirements of dealing with confidential information.
3. Ability to work collaboratively to achieve team objectives. Desirable
4. A formal qualification in law, commerce, accounting, economics, finance or related discipline
