South Burnett Regional Council is one of the largest employers within the region, with offices and depots located in Kingaroy, Nanango, Wondai, Murgon, Proston and Blackbutt.

Council is comprised of three (3) Departments: Executive Services, Finance & Liveability, and Infrastructure. About the Region The South Burnett Region is ideally situated just 2 - 3 hours' drive to Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast.

About the roles
- Based in Nanango or Kingaroy
- Permanent Full Time
- $83K- $95K per annum + Allowances + Super
Council is seeking a Safety Advisor to develop, implement and promote effective WHS systems. This position plays a critical role ensuring the effective operational and strategic WHS performance of council. This includes building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and strengthening organisational capability by ensuring systems remain current and compliant, as well as providing guidance, advice and support on WHS matters, have knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, and able to provide strategies and controls that align with the operational plan. The successful candidate will have a high level of experience within a WHS role, ability to encourage and support a team as well as actively engage, consult and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety
- Minimum requirement of a current C Class driver’s license.
- ICAM Investigations Qualifications
- General Safety Induction Construction Worker (White Card).
Desirable Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training
- First Aid Certificate

Skills and experience
Please address the following key selection criteria items below, as part of your application
- Previous relevant experience working in a similar safety position, preferably in a local government or a civil construction environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of WHS legislation, workers’ compensation and rehabilitation legislation and associated legislation and relevant industry standards.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including conflict resolution skills and the ability to build effective relationships with employees at all levels.
- Substantial organisational skills, with the ability to establish work priorities, achieve outcomes, meet deadlines and deliver training programs.
- High level of keyboard and computer skills including knowledge of the MS Office and the ability to use corporate software programs.
