About the chance

SAI Security Protection has been appointed by Brisbane City Council as its physical security provider. Services commence on 1 November 2026 and cover Council facilities, staff and the public across Brisbane — the 24-hour security monitoring centre, City Hall and King George Square, Council libraries and car parks, parks and public amenities, and the Transport for Brisbane bus network.

Security Operations Centre

Council’s security monitoring centre in the Brisbane CBD operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All four positions are Security Officer Level 5.

- Public Safety Operator (Level 5) — monitoring Council CCTV across the Malls precincts, King George Square, the CBD, the Valley and the city’s bridges; managing public address and deterrence messaging; shift Team Leader.

- Asset Security Operator (Level 5) — monitoring and responding to duress alarms, emergency call points and security alarms across Council’s asset portfolio; remote arming, disarming and unlocking of Council sites.

- Operations Support Operator (Level 5) — supporting the Public Safety and Asset Security positions to ensure timely response to incidents. New operators start here.

- SOC Shift Supervisor (Level 5) — leading the shift, coordinating incident response and maintaining operational standards.

Brisbane City Hall, King George Square and Council sites

- Protection Officer, Brisbane City Hall — 24/7 rotating 12-hour shifts. Team leadership, incident command and after-hours emergency responsibility.

- Roving and Door Officer, City Hall and King George Square — 6am to 6pm, patrolling and access control.

- Council Chambers Security Officer — screening and public gallery duties on Council and committee meeting days.

- Access Control and Administration Operator — Monday to Friday business hours, processing Council access control requests and customer service.

- Library Security Officer — Brisbane Square Library and Inala Library.

- Car Park Security Officer — King George Square and Wickham Terrace car parks, early morning and overnight shifts.

- Casual Static Security Officers — paid relief pool covering leave across all Council sites.





- Site Supervisor — supervising static guarding across Council sites and conducting site audits.

Mobile patrols, lock-up and alarm response

- Mobile Patrol Officer — day and night patrols and the lock-up and unlock of Council parks, public amenities, sports reserves and facilities across Brisbane.

- Alarm Response Officer — 24/7 alarm response to Council sites against time-critical attendance standards.

- Patrol Supervisor — overseeing patrol and alarm response delivery, standards and reporting.

Public transport guarding and rapid response

Transport for Brisbane runs more than 1,200 buses, six depots and the city’s interchanges, 24 hours a day.

- Rapid Response Vehicle Officer — responding to incidents across the bus network, assisting drivers and Council staff, and patrolling routes, stops and interchanges in a marked Council-liveried vehicle.

- On-Board Transport Security Officer — Nightlink, CityGlider and Hopper services.

- Facility and Interchange Security Officer — bus depots, interchanges such as Chermside and Inala, major city stops and driver meal facilities.

- Field Supervisor — supervising deployment across the network and liaising with Council’s operational control centres.

What you will need

- A current Queensland Security Provider Licence — Class 1 (Security Officer). If you hold CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations and your licence application is lodged, we want to hear from you now.

- A current First Aid certificate (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009). A Senior First Aid certificate is required for the monitoring centre roles.

- A Queensland Working with Children Blue Card, or willingness to obtain one. Council requires this for City Hall, the libraries and all public transport roles.

- A National Police Check and full working rights in Australia.

- A current open Queensland C class driver licence for the patrol and rapid response roles.





- The physical capacity the work requires — walking for more than two hours, and bending, stooping and working with hands above shoulder height.

- Clear spoken English on phone, radio and public address, and the ability to write accurate incident reports and police statements unaided.

- Availability for a rotating roster that includes nights, weekends and public holidays.

- The ability to pass Council’s due diligence process. Every appointment is subject to written approval by Council’s Corporate Security Manager before deployment.

What will set you apart

- Experience in relevant roles especially security monitoring centre, control room or communications centre.

- Hands-on experience operating enterprise access control and video management platforms. Tell us which ones
- A background in local government, public transport or critical infrastructure.

- Chief Fire Warden or Fire Warden training, or emergency control experience under AS 3745.

- De-escalation and conflict management experience in public-facing settings.

- Screening experience, including walk-through metal detector and hand wand operation.

- Rates paid in accordance with the Security Services Industry Award MA000016, Levels 1 to 5 depending on the role and your experience, with shift, weekend and public holiday penalties.
