Hancock Energy has a Max Term opportunity until Dec 2028 for a Senior Cost Engineer to join a growing team supporting onshore oil and gas projects throughout Western Australia.
1This prospect is within the Projects team based onshore in West Perth. The Senior Cost Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, management and assurance of all project cost control activities associated with the delivery of a major greenfield gas processing facility and associated upstream infrastructure.
2Reporting into the Lead Cost Engineer will work closely with Project Controls, Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning teams to ensure project costs are effectively controlled, forecasted and managed throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the project cost control framework.
- Establish project budgets, control estimates and cost reporting systems.
- Monitor commitment, expenditure and forecast costs against approved budgets.
- Analyse cost trends and identify potential overruns, risks and opportunities.
- Ensure accurate tracking of contingency,
management reserve and escalation allowances.
- Maintain cost breakdown structures aligned with the Work Breakdown Structure
- Prepare monthly project cost reports and executive dashboards.
- Monitor cost performance against approved baselines.
- Review and validate EPC/EPCM contractor cost reports.
- Monitor contractor performance against approved budgets.
- Review and validate variation estimates.
- Integrate cost information with project schedules and progress measurement systems.
- Monitor committed costs against procurement budgets.
- Track major equipment and packaged equipment expenditures
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Minimum 15 years' experience in project controls and cost engineering within the oil and gas industry.
- Significant experience on greenfield hydrocarbon developments exceeding AUD $500M.
- Demonstrated experience on LNG, gas processing facilities, pipelines, infrastructure or energy developments.
- Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
- Strong understanding of EPC and EPCM contracting models.
- Experience developing and managing large project budgets exceeding AUD $1 billion.
- Advanced knowledge of forecasting earned value management and cost performance analysis
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce or related discipline.
- Formal training in Project Controls and Cost Engineering.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cost management systems.
- Experience using UniPhi, EcoSys, Prism, Cleopatra or similar project controls systems.
