Projects, Infrastructure & Construction Lawyer – Associate / Senior Associate

Our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team advises principals, contractors, developers, consultants, government and project owners across Defence, infrastructure, resources, energy, maritime and property sectors.

The opportunity

We are looking for an Associate or Senior Associate to join Bennett’s growing Projects, Infrastructure & Construction practice.

Led by Principal Edward Parra, this role offers exposure to high-quality front-end and back-end construction matters, including procurement, contract negotiation, project delivery, claims management, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution.

A key differentiator of this role is the opportunity to work on significant Defence and strategic infrastructure matters.

You’ll work closely with Edward and have the opportunity to develop your expertise across:

Front end works

- advising clients on the procurement and delivery of projects across a variety of sectors;
- advising on contractual risk allocation, departures and commercial positions during contract formation and project delivery; and
- preparing, reviewing and negotiating construction, infrastructure and project documentation across various procurement models, including ASDEFCON arrangements.

Back end works
- providing contract administration, project delivery and risk management advice;
- advising on security of payment claims, adjudications and project claims management;
- assisting clients with dispute avoidance and early dispute resolution strategies; and
- representing clients in adjudications, mediations, arbitrations and court proceedings.

About you We’re interested in lawyers who:

- Have approximately 4-8 years PAE




- Have strong experience in front end and or back end construction work (we are open to candidates who have general commercial or commercial litigation experience who wish to focus on the projects discipline)
- Possess strong drafting, analytical and commercial skills
- Enjoy direct client engagement and taking responsibility for matters
- Are looking to build a long-term career in a growing practice
- Are willing to engage in the firm’s business development activities and open to travel to Adelaide to support our operations in South Australia
