Your current role
Due to a temporary resourcing requirement, an prospect has arisen for an experienced Legal Counsel to join the Sydney-based legal team for a 3-4 month assignment.
Reporting to the Head of Legal & Company Secretary, you will join a close-knit and experienced legal team supporting senior stakeholders across the business. This is a broad financial services legal role offering exposure to a diverse range of advisory, regulatory and commercial matters.
Your responsibilities will include
- Advising on financial services regulatory obligations, including AFSL-related matters, AML/CTF requirements, regulatory change and compliance initiatives.
- Supporting the business on asset management, investment management and wealth management matters.
- Reviewing and negotiating a broad range of agreements, including investment management agreements, commercial contracts, supplier arrangements and transaction documentation.
- Advising on lending, credit and margin lending matters.
- Supporting strategic projects, product initiatives, governance matters and business transactions.
- Providing practical legal advice to executives and senior business stakeholders across a range of corporate and commercial issues.
- Managing external counsel and delivering commercially focused legal solutions to complex business challenges.

What you'll need to succeed To be successful, you will be an experienced and commercially minded lawyer with the confidence to operate autonomously in a fast-paced financial services environment.
You will ideally bring
- A minimum of approximately 8 years' post-admission experience.
- Solid financial services legal experience gained in private practice, in-house or a combination of both.
- Expertise in financial services regulation and regulated financial products and services.
- Experience in one or more of asset management, funds management, investment management, credit, margin lending, wealth management or private banking.
- Exposure to regulatory frameworks including AFSL obligations and AML/CTF requirements.
- Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice.
Lawyers with a broad financial services background and the ability to navigate complex legal and regulatory issues will be particularly well suited to this opportunity.
