NTRO - National Transport Research Organisation

Melbourne

Does solving Australia's waste & environmental problems through sustainable science-based innovation interest you? If so, we have exciting opportunities!

Your next opportunity awaits at NTRO

Our Transport Innovation Services (TIS) group is responsible for the science, research, analysis and advice to clients on a range of important transport infrastructure concerns. NTRO is instrumental in the research and development of recycled materials being applied within Australian & New Zealand transport network which is a direct result from the TIS team.

Every tonne of recycled or sustainable material that ends up in an Australian or New Zealand road got there because someone proved it was safe, durable and worth doing. In this role, that someone is you.

About The Role The TIS team currently has one vacancy within their business group. This role can be based in Melbourne or Brisbane, however if you reside outside of these cities and feel you have the skills and experience, we are looking for, we encourage you to apply, as we have other offices.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a solid understanding of sustainable transport infrastructure practices, planning, and design knowledge. If you don't come from the transport industry but feel you have relevant transferable skills and experience, and our roles are exciting to you, we also encourage you to apply - a different background can create new opportunities within our teams.

What You'll Be Doing

- Have sound knowledge, experience and passion into transport infrastructure, and work on projects related to sustainable and recycled infrastructure and pavement technologies, materials, waste management, and environmental management.
- Design and conduct laboratory studies and field trials, interpret and translate scientific and complex results, and communicate them clearly and concisely for a general audience.

- Continue to develop an understanding of government sustainability policies, environmental regulations, and the technical and safety risks associated with the use of recycled materials.
- Test and implement emerging infrastructure materials, contribute to the commercialisation of sustainable materials, and deliver practical outcomes.
- Contribute to the preparation of bids, proposals and business cases - and then help deliver the work you helped win.
- Work proactively and flexibly with a range of clients - government bodies, sustainability agencies, industry associations and recycling industry bodies.

What You'll Bring You'll hold a bachelor's, master's or higher qualification in Civil, Chemical or Materials Engineering, or a related engineering or science area, and bring sound knowledge of road construction and transport infrastructure materials - asphalt, concrete and granular materials. With 5+ years of experience, you understand the pathway towards global decarbonisation and the outcomes of COP26, including the Paris Agreement, and have a strong interest and sound background in applied research and creative solutions for the transport industry.

About

Just as important is how you work, we're looking for someone with a solid understanding of sustainable transport and infrastructure practices - we care more about the substance of what you've done than a set number of years - along with:

- A track record of helping deliver projects to agreed scope, budget, quality and timetable.

- Highly developed interpersonal and collaboration skills, so you can hold constructive conversations with public and private sector stakeholders and work alongside experts from several disciplines.
- A growing track record of writing compelling proposals and business cases, spotting new clients and areas of interest, and maintaining the relationships behind them.
- Design and conduct laboratory studies and field trials, interpret and translate scientific and complex results, and communicate them clearly and concisely for a general audience

Every role at NTRO is meaningful, are you ready for yours? At NTRO we are proud to continually attract leading minds within the Transport infrastructure and research areas. We host a culturally and gender diverse work environment and we celebrate workforce diversity while highlighting the multidisciplinary teams of professionals from all over the world. We strongly encourage applications from Women looking to make an impact within the STEM arena. Don't meet every single requirement for this role?

We recognise you may have a diverse set of skills, work experiences, and life experiences that can greatly enhance the ability to deliver effective transport solutions and positive community outcomes. If you are excited about this role, but your experience doesn't align with the criteria we still encourage you to submit your application.

NTRO actively seeks to include and value the unique talents, perspectives, experiences, and contributions of all applicants.

- Applicants must have full working rights
- Please ensure you attached your CV, attach a separate cover letter (no more than one page) addressing why you would be perfect for this role and what you would be hoping to get out of it, and answer the screening questions provided.
