- Join the Capital Policy & Frameworks team within Finance and play a key role in shaping how the NSW Department of Education manages its capital budget
About The Role As the Senior Policy Officer, you will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of capital budget management policies and frameworks, ensuring they support best practice, departmental priorities and external requirements. This role is in the Finance, Capital Services directorate. You will be required to have a good understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, Government Sector Finance Act and Regulations, and the NSW Treasury pronouncements. You will also need to work with other financial policy, the department’s financial systems, processes and data.
You will need the ability to understand and explain financial concepts to non-finance and finance users. Financial knowledge and skills are highly desirable for this role.
You will research and analyse complex issues, develop evidence-based policy options and provide expert advice to stakeholders across the department. You will also work closely with Finance and other teams to implement policy and frameworks, support consistent approaches and respond to emerging risks and changing financial management requirements.

You Will Have
- Substantial experience interpreting policy and developing and maintaining policies, guidelines and resources
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing resources and guidelines.
- Experience in financial management and/or budget management.
- Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop evidence-based options and strategies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise advice for a range of audiences
- Robust stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence outcomes across teams
- The ability to manage competing priorities, work to tight timeframes and adapt to a changing workplace
Key Knowledge And Experience
- Substantial experience in interpreting policy, developing and maintaining guidelines and resources
- Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of resources and guidelines
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
