Senior QA Automation Engineer | Melbourne

I’m partnering with an established, growing software product business to hire a Senior QA Automation Engineer who can take ownership of automation across its product suite.

With development output increasing through business growth and AI-assisted engineering, the team is investing in QA to ensure testing keeps pace. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape the automation approach, expand test coverage and help the team deliver reliable software.

The role

Automation will be your primary focus. You’ll build on the existing Playwright setup, identify where automation will have the greatest impact and reduce reliance on manual testing.

Your responsibilities will include

- Taking ownership of the existing Playwright and Gherkin-based automation and driving its ongoing development.
- Designing, building, and maintaining automated test suites across the product range.
- Identifying gaps in coverage and converting manual checks into reliable, repeatable automated tests.
- Working closely with .NET/C# engineers to investigate issues and maintain quality as development accelerates.
- Providing practical guidance and mentoring to other QA team members,



including supporting a planned junior automation hire.
- Helping establish a more consistent and scalable approach to testing.

What we’re looking for

- Robust hands-on experience in QA automation , with solid Playwright capability.
- A track record of building or significantly improving automated test suites.
- Familiarity with Gherkin/BDD .
- Confidence taking ownership, setting priorities, and making practical decisions about automation.
- Comfortable working within a .NET/C# engineering environment .
- Clear communication skills and the ability to support and develop less experienced testers.
