About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join ANZ Group Cyber Security as a Software Engineer within the Security Automation squad. The role is suited to an engineer with foundational knowledge of software engineering, cyber security, and incident response concepts who is looking to develop their skills in security automation and orchestration. Working closely with Security Operations Centre (SOC) analysts, incident responders, and security engineers, you will help design, build, test, and support automation solutions that improve the effectiveness, consistency, and scalability of cyber security operations. You will contribute to the development of orchestration workflows, platform integrations, and automation capabilities that reduce manual effort and accelerate security outcomes.

Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will take ownership of focused, defined deliverables such as automation enhancements, testing activities, documentation updates, and operational support tasks. Through these responsibilities, you will build technical expertise while helping deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable automation solutions for Group Cyber Security.

What will your day look like?

As a Software Engineer - Cyber Security Automation, you will:

- Implement and maintain automation enhancements using established orchestration workflows, integrations, and engineering patterns.
- Contribute to enhancements of the cyber security incident management platform to streamline analyst actions and realize a single pane of glass strategy.
- Support the development and testing of API integrations using established patterns and guidance from experienced engineers.
- Work with SOC analysts and security practitioners to understand manual processes or operational challenges and implement automation solutions that improve consistency, scale, and operational effectiveness.
- Support monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automation solutions including responding to operational support and break/fix requests to ensure they remain reliable, maintainable, and fit for operational use.
- Follow secure engineering practices and operational controls to ensure automation solutions are safe, reliable, and fit for use in cyber security operations.
- Develop awareness of AI,



generative AI, and agentic AI capabilities, and contribute to identifying opportunities to enhance security operations, automation workflows, analyst productivity, and incident response processes through the responsible adoption of AI-driven solutions.
- Contribute to enhancing the squad’s processes and procedures around the end-to-end development lifecycle with respect to best practices and the Agile framework.

What impacts would you have?

- Gathering and Understanding Requirements – Participate in requirements gathering activities and assist with documenting functional and technical requirements.
- Automating Away the Dull Stuff – Implement automation of repeatable tasks using established designs, patterns, and guidance from more experienced engineers, while taking responsibility for the quality, testing, and supportability of assigned automation solutions.
- Managing Code from Source to Deployment - Follow engineering standards and participate in code management practices including source control, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
- Delivering and Testing Solutions - Engineer and test solutions using existing patterns, tools, and frameworks to deliver small enhancements with guidance and support from experienced engineers.
- Identifying and Mitigating Risks - Raise delivery, security, and operational concerns when identified and support implementation of agreed mitigations.
- Understanding Business Value - Develop an understanding of how technology services support business outcomes, including reducing manual effort, improving consistency, and accelerating security investigation and response activities.

What will you bring?

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

- Proven years of experience in Information Technology; including work experience in Security Automation and/or a DevOps function.
- Experience or exposure to cyber security incident response processes, endpoint/network/cloud security platforms, and core information security concepts including incident response processes, security monitoring, threat detection, and risk management principles.
- Experience or exposure to security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR) solutions and/or security incident management platforms.
- Experience using a programming language such as Python to automate processes in a modular and scalable fashion.




- Experience using a scripting language such as JavaScript to control how users interact with a energetic graphical or web-based interface.
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and practices.
- Experience in service management (incident, change, and problem management).
- Experience with source control and distributed version control systems (i.e. Git).
- Foundational understanding of REST APIs and willingness to learn integration techniques.
- Basic understanding of database concepts.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and willingness to learn debugging and troubleshooting techniques.
- Awareness of AI, generative AI, and agentic AI concepts, including their practical application in software engineering, automation, cyber security, and developer productivity use cases.
- Understanding of Agile framework, ceremonies, and practices.
- Strong communication skills, able to articulate technical concepts and apply problem-solving capabilities with the ability to translate analysis into actionable items and/or recommendations.
- A desire to continuously develop your knowledge and skills to keep up with a rapidly changing threat landscape and bring innovative ideas into the squad.
- Demonstrated ability to complete assigned work and learn from feedback provided by peers and senior engineers.
