We are working with a highly regarded law firm looking to appoint a Special Counsel to its construction disputes team. The practice acts on significant matters arising from major construction and engineering projects across Australia, with opportunities available in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

The role:

The focus is firmly on back-end construction, working across complex and commercially significant disputes for major participants in the construction sector.

Your matters will include:

- Delay, disruption and variation claims
- Defects and contractual disputes
- Security of payment matters
- Disputes arising from major construction and engineering projects
- Australian Standard construction contract disputes
- Litigation, mediation, arbitration and other dispute resolution
- Strategic advice on developing claims and project issues

The work is technically challenging and often involves substantial documentation, expert evidence and detailed contractual analysis. At Special Counsel level, you will be trusted to take ownership of matters rather than simply support from the sidelines. You will work directly with clients, contribute to strategy and manage significant disputes alongside experienced senior lawyers.

There is also scope to mentor junior lawyers, strengthen existing client relationships and continue developing your own profile within the market.

About you:

You will have significant experience in construction litigation and dispute resolution, ideally gained within a recognised construction or commercial disputes practice.

You will bring:

- Strong back-end construction experience
- A sound understanding of construction contracts and key industry principles
- Experience managing complex and high-value disputes
- Robust drafting, analytical and strategic skills
- Confidence working directly with sophisticated clients
- The ability to manage matters with a high degree of autonomy
- A practical and commercial approach to dispute resolution

You may already be operating at Special Counsel level or be an experienced Senior Associate ready to step into a genuine senior role.
