About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and motivated Data Engineer who is eager to make a real impact. You'll play a key role in shaping and growing our modern data platform using Microsoft Fabric, developing scalable solutions that turn complex business data into valuable insights. From building lakehouses, data pipelines and semantic models to integrating Power BI and advanced data engineering capabilities, you'll have the opportunity to work across the full data lifecycle and influence how data is used across the organisation.
Working closely with business stakeholders, analysts and architects, you'll help solve complex challenges, improve data quality and unlock new opportunities through data. We're looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, continuously improving processes and finding smarter ways of doing things. Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain Microsoft Fabric data platforms, including lakehouses, warehouses and pipelines.
- Develop reliable data ingestion and transformation processes for structured and unstructured data.
- Integrate data across enterprise business systems, experienced in overcoming the challenges associated with extracting and integrating data from on-premise and legacy platforms.
- Create and manage reporting-ready datasets to support business analytics and insights.
- Build scalable data solutions using Fabric tools, notebooks and data engineering capabilities.
- Monitor,
troubleshoot and optimise data pipelines to ensure performance and reliability.
- Apply data security, governance and access controls across data environments.
- Implement data quality checks, validation processes and exception management controls.
- Capture and maintain data lineage, metadata and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts and technical teams to deliver data solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, standards and best practices within the data engineering function.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong experience working with SQL, relational databases and modern data platforms.
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines and datasets in Microsoft Fabric or Azure data environments.
- Proficiency in PySpark, Spark SQL, Python and data transformation tools.
- Experience developing data models and reporting datasets that support business insights.
- Knowledge of data quality, governance, security and compliance best practices.
- Experience integrating data from multiple source systems into analytics platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience using source control, deployment tools and structured development practices.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Around 3+ years' experience in data engineering, business intelligence, analytics engineering or a similar data-focused role.
Desirable:
- Experience with Progress OpenEdge, OpenEdge ABL, Rocket UniVerse or other legacy database platforms.
- Experience working with ERP, manufacturing, finance or operational business systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Power BI, Azure DevOps and Git.
