Business Manager – Lead Growth & Culture at a Doctor-Owned GP Practice in Toowong

Neighbourhood Medical is a private-billing, GP-owned general practice in Toowong, specialising in women's and children's health. We have recently relocated and doubled in size, with large potential for expansion of services. We're known for our “slow medicine” philosophy — unhurried, relationship-based care that puts patients first. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced senior leader to partner with our Practice Principals in growing the business, lifting profitability and shaping a strong workplace culture.

The Role

This is a senior leadership role for someone who combines robust business acumen with genuine leadership capability — a systems thinker who builds the structures, reporting and culture a growing practice needs to scale well. Reporting to the Practice Principals, you'll be a driving influence on business growth, profitability and workplace culture, while our Reception and Nursing Team Leaders continue to manage day-to-day operational delivery. You'll bring senior leadership experience from any small-to-medium business — health sector experience is a bonus rather than a requirement, though a genuine interest in health or care-related businesses matters to us.

What You'll Bring

· Substantial senior leadership experience running or growing a small-to-medium business; a tertiary qualification in business, management or finance would be ideal

· A demonstrated track record of driving growth and improving profitability in a small business

· A systems thinker — you enjoy building the processes, structures and reporting frameworks that let a growing business scale well

· Strong analytical skills — comfortable interpreting data, preparing reports and advising on strategy





· A track record of developing budgets, business cases and performance initiatives that deliver measurable results

· A natural leader who builds trust, drives performance and shapes a strong, healthy workplace culture

· Sound knowledge of contemporary HR practices, governance and workplace health and safety

· Comfort working with Xero (or similar) and the MS Office suite

· Experience in, or a genuine interest in, health or care-related businesses, and a genuine alignment with our values — excellent communication, healthy boundaries, a slow medicine approach, self-care for staff, and efficient, reliable and responsive systems

Key Responsibilities

· Leading the practice's culture, people and performance, and upholding and growing its reputation with both patients and tenant general practitioners

· Working closely with the Reception and Nursing Team Leaders, who manage day-to-day operational delivery

· Business planning, budgeting and reporting against practice goals

· Revenue optimisation, including billing practices, item number uptake and funding opportunities

· Financial management — Xero reconciliation, payroll and reporting for Practice Principals

· Marketing and public relations oversight

· Human resources — recruitment, compliance documentation, onboarding and industrial awards

· Risk management, compliance and practice accreditation

· IT, equipment and supplier liaison, and overall leadership oversight of non-clinical operations
