About the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
Founded in 2001, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent, values-driven, not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. We champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.

About The Role (3 Months Fixed-Term Contract | Part-Time, 0.8 FTE)
Are you a passionate campaigner, network builder and advocate for social justice? As a Community Organiser within the ASRC’s Advocacy and Organising team, you will play a crucial role in building grassroots power and driving systemic change for refugees and people seeking asylum.
In this position, you will lead state and national organizing strategies, recruit and mentor volunteer community organisers, build strategic local alliances and facilitate values-based advocacy workshops. You will work closely with community leaders and alumni to ensure people with lived experience lead the movement for change.

Key Responsibilities:

- Campaign & Strategy Execution: Develop, implement and monitor state and regional organizing strategies in alignment with ASRC national campaign priorities.
- Centering Lived Experience: Embed authentic opportunities for refugees and people seeking asylum to lead organizing work, shape narratives and drive political advocacy.
- Volunteer Leadership: Recruit, train, onboard and support local teams of volunteer community organisers and grassroots networks in targeted electorates.
- Capacity Building & Facilitation: Design and deliver innovative training workshops, toolkits and interactive materials focused on political messaging, values-based framing and persuasive conversations.
- Alliance Building: Cultivate relationships with community allies, partner organisations, faith groups and local advocates to strengthen movement reach.
- Program Management:



Oversee the ASRC Speakers Program, maintain relationships with CAPP (Community Advocacy & Power Program) alumni and manage organizing data via NationBuilder.

About You:
You are a passionate, strategic, and values-driven organiser dedicated to social justice and human rights. You thrive on building authentic relationships, bringing communities together and empowering everyday people to take meaningful action for systemic change.

To excel in this role, you will bring:

- Campaign & Organising Expertise: Proven experience in grassroots movement building, political campaigning, or activist mobilization within a social justice framework.
- Volunteer Leadership: A natural ability to recruit, mentor and inspire volunteer teams and community networks to drive local electorate strategies.
- Lived Experience Centering: A deep commitment to working respectfully alongside people seeking asylum, ensuring those with lived experience lead and shape advocacy efforts.
- Powerful Communication: Skilled in values-based message framing to shift public narratives, alongside strong workshop facilitation and toolkit development skills.
- Cultural Competency: Experience working collaboratively and inclusively across culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Technical Savvy: Familiarity with movement-building CRMs like NationBuilder, paired with strong organizational and project management skills.
