Your New Role:
Are you looking to start your career in finance while gaining valuable practical experience?
Council is seeking a motivated Trainee Finance Administration to join our Finance and Revenue team. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, combining structured workplace training with formal study towards a Certificate III in Accounts Administration (or equivalent).
As a Trainee Finance Administration, you will develop practical skills across a range of Council’s finance and revenue functions while receiving guidance and support from experienced team members. You’ll gain hands-on experience in areas including accounts payable, accounts receivable, rates and water billing, records management, data entry and general administration.
You will also have the opportunity to develop your customer service, communication, organisational and Microsoft Office skills while contributing to the delivery of accurate, timely and customer-focused financial services.
What you’ll do
Working as part of the Finance and Revenue team, you will:
- Participate in on-the-job training and formal coursework as part of your traineeship.
- Complete a Certificate III in Accounts Administration (or equivalent) through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
- Assist with accounts payable, including checking and entering invoices, maintaining records and filing documents.
- Assist with accounts receivable, including preparing invoices and updating customer and debtor information.
- Support rates and water billing activities, including data entry, record checking and routine updates.
- Prepare and maintain spreadsheets, reports, letters and other documents.
- Enter, update and check financial, property and customer information in Council systems.
- Provide friendly, professional and helpful customer service by phone, email and in person.

About You:
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about starting a career in finance and is keen to learn, develop new skills and contribute to a supportive team environment.
You will ideally have:
- A minimum Year 10 education, with Year 12 desirable.
- A genuine interest in finance, administration and learning new skills.
- A willingness and commitment to complete a Certificate III in Accounts Administration (or equivalent).
- Basic computer skills gained through school, work or another office workplace.
- Sound numeracy and literacy skills, with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Developing skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- A friendly and professional approach to customer service.
- Good organisational and time-management skills, including the ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with financial, personal and property information.
- A willingness to ask questions, seek guidance and learn from experienced team members.
- The ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- A willingness to learn Council’s finance, revenue, records-management and customer-service systems and procedures.
- A commitment to ongoing learning and successfully completing the traineeship.
A current driver’s licence, or willingness to obtain and maintain one, is also required.
