YOUTH MENTOR – REGIONAL RESET PROGRAM

Yabun Panjoo Aboriginal Corporation is seeking passionate, motivated and community-focused individuals to join our Regional Reset Program as a Youth Mentor based in Townsville.

Regional Reset is a culturally led early intervention program supporting young people aged 8–17 years who are at risk of disengagement, anti-social behaviour and involvement in the youth justice system. Through mentoring, cultural connection, family engagement and intensive Reset Camps, we support young people to build positive futures and stronger connections to family, culture and community.

About the Role

As a Youth Mentor, you will work directly with young people and families to provide:

- One-on-one mentoring and support

- Positive role modelling

- Family engagement and support

- School engagement and attendance support

- Community participation activities

- Cultural connection opportunities

- Goal setting and case planning support

- Participation in Regional Reset Camps

- Advocacy and referral support

You will build strong relationships with young people, support them to identify their strengths and aspirations, and assist them to overcome barriers impacting their wellbeing, education and future opportunities.

Travel and Camp Participation

This role requires flexibility and a willingness to travel.

Successful applicants must be willing and able to:

- Travel throughout the Townsville region and surrounding communities.

- Attend and participate in Regional Reset Camps.

- Undertake overnight stays and multi-day camp activities.





- Participate in after-hours, weekend and school holiday activities when required.

- Support young people during camp programs and community activities.

Regional Reset Camps are a key component of the program and provide intensive mentoring, cultural learning, life skills development and positive community engagement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver culturally safe mentoring and support services.

- Build positive relationships with young people and families.

- Support participant engagement in education, training and employment pathways.

- Participate in cultural activities and camps.

- Maintain accurate case notes and participant records.

- Support participants to achieve individual goals.

- Identify and respond appropriately to risks and concerns.

- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and community partners.

- Contribute to positive participant outcomes and program success.

Essential Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Experience working with young people, families or communities.

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

- Ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families.

- Understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based practice.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Current Queensland Driver Licence.

- Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain).





- National Police Check (or ability to obtain).

- Ability to travel and participate in overnight camps.

- Australian work rights are required for this position.

- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

- Qualifications in Youth Work, Community Services, Human Services or a related field.

- Experience working in youth justice, child protection, community services or mentoring programs.

- Experience facilitating group activities or camps.

- Local community knowledge and networks.
