Yard Manager

Scrap Metal Recycling $120,000 + Super | $20,000 KPI-Based Bonus Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Yard Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a busy scrap metal recycling facility in Melbourne.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to an experienced yard or operations manager who knows how to manage people, equipment and workflow while maintaining a strong focus on safety, productivity and operational performance.

You will have ownership of the yard's daily operations, leading the team, managing rosters, overseeing plant and workflow, driving efficiency and ensuring agreed KPIs are achieved.

The Role Your responsibilities will include:

- Taking full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the yard.
- Managing and coordinating daily yard operations and workflow.
- Preparing staff rosters and ensuring appropriate coverage.
- Leading, supervising and managing the yard team.
- Managing incoming scrap metal, processing, sorting, storage and dispatch.
- Coordinating the use and utilisation of plant, machinery and equipment.
- Ensuring the yard operates efficiently, safely and productively.
- Managing stock, materials and general yard requirements.
- Coordinating drivers, transport and the movement of materials.
- Monitoring plant and equipment and ensuring maintenance requirements are addressed.
- Maintaining high standards of workplace health and safety across the yard.
- Managing operational costs and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Setting and monitoring team performance and operational KPIs.
- Holding the team accountable for productivity, safety and performance.
- Working closely with senior management to achieve business objectives.
- Driving continuous improvement across the yard.
- Maintaining a clean,



organised and professional working environment.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and confident leader who can take ownership of a busy yard and get the best out of their team.

You will ideally have:

- Previous experience managing a scrap metal, recycling, waste, salvage or similar industrial yard.
- Experience in different relevant fields would be considered.
- Strong knowledge of yard operations, workflow and material handling.
- Previous experience managing and rostering a team.
- Proven leadership and people-management skills.
- A practical understanding of plant, machinery and equipment.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A strong understanding of workplace health and safety.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to deal with staff, drivers, suppliers and management.
- A commercially minded approach with a focus on productivity and efficiency.
- The ability to set, monitor and achieve operational KPIs.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to be involved in the day-to-day operation of the yard.
